I was an award winning fine artist (painting and sculpture) before I started painting tile over 20 years ago, at which time two things happened. My younger sister moved and left me her kiln, and I had a new baby. I found I didn't have the concentration for large canvases and thought tile would be smaller and cleaner (no turpentine). By the time my daughter reached the age of two, I found myself painting a 64 square foot custom mural on tumbled stone tile which was so large I had to pile my living room furniture in a corner so I could spread it out on the floor. So much for smaller and less concentration! There are now 3 kilns in my garage, my small ceramics studio, and the stone tile murals are still on the living room floor!
When I first heard of Etsy, I liked the idea of an alternative community for artists and artisans to showcase and sell their work. Not being computer savvy, it was a little intimidating, but somehow I have muddled through. I started painting the house numbers after several buyers saw my tiles and asked if I could make them, and have been doing them ever since. I still paint my murals, working with local designers and contractors.
Now that my daughter is grown and on her own, I would very much like to get back to my true love - painting and sculpture - and hope to offer my work here in the near future.
Thanks so much for visiting my shop!
