Signs, Banners, Candles... and Beyond

I’m Heather, mixed media Artisan, nature-lover, wife, and mother of two (cats). I was raised in a small town in upstate New York, where I studied Fine Art and Photography, later heading West to pursue Media and Design in college.

Cubelem (pronounced "cube-el-em") originated from a drawing I did some years ago, a geometric symbol that reimagines the elemental pentagram. If you break down the shapes within the Cubelem logo, each square represents one of the five elements; Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit. With a name derived from the intriguing art form "Cubism" paired with "Elements", the Cubelem was initially used as a logo for my little candle shop.

In 2014, I started an shop called Candle Corners as a nod to our elements, referencing philosophies of Celtic Paganism, where profound natural occurrences such as the Sun and the Moon are celebrated, as well as Animism, wherein 'all things hold a spiritual reverence'.

Candle Corners has since evolved into what is now Cubelem, utilizing the same geometric logo. My rebranded candles are still hand-poured in small batches with 100% soy wax, natural essential oils, wooden wicks, and ingredients free of phthalates, parabens, BPA, zinc and lead.

Signage and Banners have been a more recent exciting development. I've been fortunate to work with so many kind and creative customers over the last year to show off their styles, represent their business logos/slogans and create unique gifts for loved ones. *Banners are hand sewn by my very own crafty momma, making them extra special!

I work with careful thought for details, and delight in the idea of a finished projects’ journey once it leaves my hands. Often times my tools and supplies are acquired from other small businesses and fellow Makers. I strive for quality materials — solid woods, natural soy wax, raw brass, genuine cotton fabric and handmade abaca paper — always with rooted values and efforts of sustainability, repurposing and eco-friendly supplies in mind.

As of Earth Day 2021, every order from Cubelem will plant a tree through the One Tree Planted nonprofit organization, with donations made annually. ↟

There are few things I love more than honing a new craft, so it’s likely that Cubelem (my little creative corner of the world) will be an ever evolving space to grow as an Artist. *I consider this a circumstance of being an Aries raised by hippie Musicians and Writers.

Doing my best to embrace the pace of nature, particularly when it comes to my work -- a rhythm that so often needs reminding, but I've come to appreciate that moments of stillness and reflection are vital for creative inspiration.

I hope you'll follow my journey @cubelem.

COVID-19 Prevention Policy

As a one-woman operation, I can assure you that all items made and sold by Cubelem are handled with the utmost caution and care from my home studio in California, which also features an industrial air filtration system ensuring the removal of harmful particles throughout my work environment.

In additional, my husband and I have avoided heavily populated areas altogether since March 2020. In the event that we are required to enter a congregated area (such as a food store), rest assured that we take this pandemic very seriously and follow appropriate safety measures for protection including distancing and sanitizing.

If you have questions/concerns, please feel free to reach out to me through Etsy or info@cubelem.com.

Candle Care

• Please let your candle fully liquid pool across the top before extinguishing. This will create a burn "memory" to avoid any tunneling, ensuring an even burn every time.
• Keep wick trimmed to 1/4". Cubelem wood wicks are generally low maintenance, but may need occasional trimming.
• Keep out of reach from children and pets!
• Burn should not exceed 4 hours, and be sure to let fully cool before handling.

Candle bubbles, is that normal?

Yes! This particular soy wax is all natural and free of harmful toxins such as parabens and phthalates. Bubbles will often pop to the surface while burning, you may even see a mystical swirl of bubbles below the surface. This cool effect paired with the subtle crackling of Cubelem wood wicks creates a truly unique and fun candle burning experience!

Are Cubelem candles free of toxins?

Yes, each candle is hand poured with an all natural soy wax and fragrance oils free of phthalates, parabens, lead and zinc. Cubelem candle ingredients are safe, cruelty-free and never tested on animals.
