Dolorous Jewelry: The nuts and bolts of it
Dolorous Jewelry is a line of accessories and wearable works of art. Born from a love of travel and sculpture the line features brass chain and repurposed vintage materials to create unconventional jewelry collections.
The line began after studying goldsmithing and jewelry design for two years at George Brown College and learning a variety of metal working techniques, I launched my inaugural collection of Dolorous Jewelry in 2010. In the following years it flourished and expanded and is now sold Internationally and has been featured in dozens of magazines, worn by celebrities, and even seen on television and the big screen.
I release my work in seasonal collections but I design constantly. Often taking influence from nature, art, and history, I'm almost never without my sketchbook. Inspiration can be found in the most unlikely places, and this is a philosophy I try to approach my designs with as well. I enjoy exploring unconventional ways to adorn one's self, as well as ways to get different looks from a single piece. Versatility is an integral aspect of my designs which is why I focus on neutral, earthy tones, to give even the most dramatic statement piece, an easy and wearable look that can be taken from day to night.
With my jewelry I strive to make items that are truly unique and extremely well made. My line is deeply inspired by historical, and specifically Medieval styles of accessories, such as various styles of Body Chains and Hand Jewelry. My materials are meticulously sourced and are always of high quality material, and many supplies are vintage and of limited stock making them very unique. Each piece is designed and handmade by me in my Toronto studio, and is shipped gift wrapped in a jewelry box or a hand-stamped muslin bag. Express shipping is available by request, as well as rush production whenever possible. Alterations and custom fitting are encouraged and available by request.
Dolorous Jewelry is an eco-minded brand taking many steps to reduce its environmental impact by reusing and recycling whenever possible. Many of the materials used are repurposed vintage materials such as charms, chains and the line's signature vintage chandelier crystals (I even use the original vintage findings whenever I can) which adds a unique vintage patina that only comes with age. The packaging is made from organic materials and primarily recycled wrapping tissue. I make each piece by hand and try to keep the process as green as possible at all times. As well as using vintage materials I also use recycled paper in my packaging.
