Frequently asked questions

What are dweads?

Synthetic dreadlocks - or “dweads”, as I call mine - are dreadlock extensions made of synthetic hair, in my case Kanekalon, which are mostly used for temporarily braiding into your hair. They are a fun way to get a new hairstyle without hurting or permanently changing your natural hair. You can use a full set to have your whole hair appear “dreaded”, use half a set to braid in the bottom part of your hair, or braid in some dweads as highlights.

SE or DE?

SE ("single ended") is a dread with a loop. DE ("double ended") is a folded dread which is 2 ends in one. 1 DE equals 2 SE dweads; you need less DE than SE for an install. This makes the install of DE faster, though many find SE easier to install when unexperienced. A DE set can create more volume, because with these, you usually take more ends of dweads in total, but SE can look & feel more natural. If you don’t know which one to choose or you want both, you can mix SE and DE in one set. Choose the amount of ends (1SE= 1 end, 1DE= 2 ends) and tell me how you want them done (example: order 80SE, leave a note that you want 40SE + 20DE). The length for my dweads always indicates the length from head to tip; DE in 50cm will be 100cm unfolded.

How many dweads to pick

The thicker your hair, the more hair you have, the bigger your head, the more volume you want & if you choose thinner dweads: the more dweads you should pick. I recommend getting more dweads if you are unsure; it is better to have a few too many than not enough when installing.

~ 70-80 SE or 40 DE for full volume /thick hair
~ 60 SE for natural volume /normal-thin hair
~ 30-40 SE or 20 DE for half a head
~ 10-20 SE or 5-10 DE for some accents

How to install dweads

You section your hair depending on how many dweads you have & how much of your hair you want “dreaded”. You pull the sectioned hair through the loop of the SE dwead, separate the hair into two pieces, and start braiding down the dwead. For DE, you separate the sectioned hair into two pieces & start braiding down one end of the DE dwead. Once you’ve braided to the end of your natural hair, you secure it with one or two rubber bands. Please make sure you don’t braid them too tightly to avoid damaging your hair & scalp, but not too loose to make sure they can last longer in your hair.

How long dweads will last & how to maintain

dweads can stay installed for usually at least 4 weeks. It depends on how you feel comfortable. You can reinstall the set many times - if taken good care of, your dweads can last years!

You can wash your hair with dweads installed. Focus on your roots when applying shampoo, conditioner is not needed. Rinse well, don't rub them too much to avoid frizz. Avoid blow drying. Don't put dweads in a washing machine. You can straighten the tips with a hair straightener on low heat (~150°C). Spray the hair with some water before & don’t leave the iron on the hair for too long. Your dweads may become frizzy after some time, loose hairs are normal. You can crochet them back into the dweads. You can go swimming with dweads installed.

Customization

For each listing, I usually provide info regarding the customization of the respective listing in the description. Please read carefully as all sets are different or ask me before ordering.

If you want a completely new custom set, I can happily make one for you. Tell me what you have in mind, you can also provide me with pictures!

Shipping & processing

I carefully crochet all sets by hand, hence it takes some time to make them for you. I do not offer faster shipping, please make sure you place your order in time. If you are unsure if an item will arrive on time, you can always ask me.

The processing time for most sets is usually 3-5 weeks, depending on how big the order is.
Samples usually take a few days to make.

Since processing times can vary, you can find more current information on processing times in my shop announcement, and appr. delivery times can be viewed in each listing.
