Our Accidental Fabric Store
Dye Candy Fabrics began in 2006 when owner Chris started dyeing fabric as a creative hobby. To help support her growing fabric dyeing habit, she began selling fabric as well. In 2007, she launched her first Etsy shop, sharing her love of color and quilting with customers across the country in 2009 the store was rebranded as Dye Candy.
In 2013, Chris and her husband purchased a former luxury hotel and later that year opened Woodland Ridge Retreat. As the retreat business continued to grow, Chris had less time to focus on hand dyeing fabric. By 2017, she attended her last quilt show as a vendor.
In January 2020, Chris had the opportunity to purchase batik fabrics from a fellow fabric store owner who was retiring. Originally, the fabrics were intended to be sold only to retreat guests. However, everything changed in March 2020 when COVID-19 forced the retreat to close and much of the income for the upcoming year had to be refunded to customers.
To help support the retreat business during that difficult time, Chris reopened the Dye Candy Etsy shop and listed the fabrics she had purchased earlier that year. Dye Candy Fabrics quickly became a vital part of sustaining the retreat business through the challenges of the pandemic and the years it took for the retreat industry to rebuild.
