Wearable Art: Real gemstone jewelry that encompasses color, shape and textures you won't find anywhere else!
I love combining different stones, shapes and colors in a harmonious fashion to create a piece that is unique. I make each piece REALLY STRONG, using heavy nylon thread/cord that is both tough and pliable. Many other jewelry artists use wire. But cord in my opinion gives a much better drape to necklaces and bracelets. And I feel that the glued knots in the bead tips give a much stronger mechanical connection than wire crimps. So be assured that your piece will last a very long time.
I got into beading after accumulating several necklaces that needed repairs. I cut them apart to create new designs and haven't stopped beading since! I love real stones and prefer using ones that have veining, streaks and mottling - revealing their natural beauty, character and authenticity.
I generally don't like to wear jewelry that is too sparkly. Although I think a few crystals here and there, done tastefully, can go a long way toward complementing the base stones and giving the piece that special feel. I like making pieces that have visual weight and substance. Because I'm a Gemini, I don't like to stick to one style for very long! And I like to design for both work and play. So you'll notice that some pieces are distinctly more suited to the office and others more suited to the beach!
I tend to incorporate elements of bohemian, beachy, tribal, ethnic, rustic and traditional designs in my pieces. I like to visit history museums and their sections on world cultures for jewelry design inspiration! But I often let the stones "speak to me" when I sit down to create. I'll simply design and redesign pieces for hours until I reach the right magical combination of stones. As a former stained glass artist, I use my experience and instincts on both form and color to create what I consider timeless wearable art!
