Enjoy the Cup that Holds Your Coffee
My shop opened back in December of 2008 with unexpected intentions except that I knew I wanted to sell my work. Since then I've slowly built up my collections and have been selling at local markets in the New England area. Working with clay serves as my meditative process in life. It grounds me and it is gratifying to create something solid from a mixture of earth. With my ceramics I explore the relationships between color, image and form. I manipulate clay into sculptural objects as well as everyday functional ware. We take for granted the vessels that hold the essential as well as the pleasurable liquids we drink along with the plates and bowls that act as carriers for our meals we create. It is important to surround ourselves with objects that can be cared for and that can tell a story.
My work is made with a porcelain body and fired in a electric kiln. I work with slipcasting, handbuilding and wheelthrowing techniques. I make my own glazes and like the effects of commercial glazes from time to time. The objects also act as a canvas for drawings that can be found on most of my work. The drawings are created by carving into the clay and washing over with a black stain, then wiping off the excess to reveal the original line. The decorative color is also handpainted on before the final firing.
