Soy Emilia y soy la creadora, dueña y artista detrás de ehstern. Mis joyas de seda están diseñadas, teñidas y creadas por mí en mi estudio en Kingston, Nueva York.
Mientras estudiaba Studio Art en la universidad, me enamoré de todo lo relacionado con la fibra, desde el teñido de telas hasta la costura, el tejido y más allá. Hello, welcome to my shop!
I'm Emilia and I am the creator, owner, and artist behind ehstern. My silk jewelry is designed, dyed, and created by me in my studio in Kingston, NY.
While studying Studio Art in college, I fell in love with all things fiber - from fabric dyeing, to sewing, to weaving and beyond. I worked as a stitcher in the costume shop of our theatre department where I would collect fabric scraps and other materials that I would repurpose into sculptures, installations, and weavings for my art classes. My rescuing of a large amount of silk that was headed for the trash was one of the key factors in how my journey in making silk jewelry began - that combined with inspiration from Lorna Moffat's 'Silk Unraveled' and a lot of experimentation in technique and design on my part.
All of the silk used in my jewelry is either repurposed, remnants, or Peace Silk made in India. Peace Silk supports local economies where workers are treated fairly and silkworms are able to finish their life cycles. I try to always source all of my materials, including beads and metals, from businesses that support fair trade and/or sustainability.
Necklaces and bracelets come in a variety of beautiful colors.The designs incorporate metal, wood, glass, and bone with the hand-crafted and dyed silk cords. The jewelry is incredibly soft, light, comfortable, and wearable.
