Tell me more: Where does the name "La Mala" come from?
It’s very difficult to choose the name of your brand. That magic word with which you identify yourself. A word that’s special and easy to remember.
In 2009 I started to make pieces under the name "emeeme”. Maybe you already knew me with that name.
But 2015 was a year of changes and evolution.
And my jewels began to be so different that they were no longer emeeme. They were something else.
As always it was my father who came up with the name and baptized my brand as La Mala. He is very good at names.
(“Mala” is the Spanish word for “bad”)
And it's funny because, with the joint "Ma" and "La", the first syllables of my surnames, a word came up that I identify with by its sonority and by that rogue point that I like so much to find in life.
Now there are people who call me "Mala" instead of Maria and I like it. After all, it sounds similar, don’t you think?
Finally, there is the inspiration:
The Spanish dictionary says that inspiration is the "stimulus that encourages creative work in art or science". And it's true, that's what it's about.
Inspiration is everything that I receive daily and stays in my brain later to reappear in my work. Inspiration is the cities and their architecture, inspiration is what I live every day, the hustling, the working, the walking, the going out. Inspiration is everything that surrounds me.
My jewelry is full of all that. My jewels are full of a life like yours, and are meant for women like you.
My jewels are for urbanites who live in the city, with little time and too many things to do.
They are jewels that will accompany you and make you powerful because they are the link with what surrounds you. They are what tell you how you really are and how you want to be in the world.
