Note from shop owner Where have I been? What a question, that has both happy and sad answers.

The *quick version is that I got sick in January of 2018. After more than a year long quest of searching for why I was sick, the only answer I have is that the stress of building jewelry, both physically and mentally, is what made me sick. My body physically cannot tolerate this work.

My heart aches at the thought of never being able to make jewelry again, but right now I just don’t know if I’ll be able to. I hope that I can return one day.

During this journey, I started focusing on the things that make me happy and bring joy to my life. I became a mom, which is the greatest and most important journey I’ve been on so far! I am dancing again. And because of that—my body is healing. I am happy. Perhaps making jewelry will be part of my happy recipe one day again in the future...

With great appreciation to all my past clients, I hope this message finds you well. Thank you for supporting me during all these years. I hope this is not a goodbye, but rather a To Be Continued...

Sincerely,
Erica

*The longer version of the story is that I began feeling a weird, disoriented, dizzy-like sensation out of the blue one day and it didn't go away. I was tested for everything it seemed, and all tests came back normal. I am perfectly healthy according to many tests. A great thing for sure, but I still felt dizzy and no expert could explain it. Doctors just couldn't help me. Through this I continued working but after about 10 months or so I just had to stop in order to focus on getting better, or healing whatever was going on with me. I went on a crazy migraine preventative diet (because really the only diagnosis any doctor came up with that made sense was vestibular migraine) and did everything else in my power to try to stop any migraine 'triggers'. But what I discovered was that the physical act of sitting at my bench, looking down, and muscling metal over stones, was the real problem. Ultimately as a last resort I went to an upper cervical chiropractor and my C1 and C2 were severely misaligned. In chiropractic land this is an obvious explanation for the dizzy-like sensations I had been experiencing. So I've been seeing this chiropractor for over a year and a half now and whatever he does, definitely helps. I don't think it's the whole story. I know for sure the problem is in my neck though. I think it is part skeletal and part muscle, part stress, part over-doing it, part burn out, and part not taking care of myself in the best ways. So I'm still discovering and healing, and in the meantime I'm being a Mama which is terrific. Making jewelry was for so many years my entire identity--who am I if I don't make jewelry? This has been a terrible struggle for me both personally, spiritually, and not to forget financially, but there were big lessons I learned from this that are much too personal to share here with the world. As I said above, perhaps making jewelry will be part of my identity one day again. But for now, it's just not. If you've made it this far thank you for reading. I will also say that vertigo and dizziness will affect 1 in 4 people in their lives, so please be sure that if you've pursued every medical avenue to explain your own vertigo or dizziness and doctors have no explanations, please look into upper cervical chiropractic care. It has been a huge lifesaver for me.

Handmade with love from scratch

I fell in love with making jewelry in the spring of 2006. I popped in to a Metal Arts class on a whim and to take a break from academic courses while in college. As soon as I felt the thrill and nerves of watching solder flow on hot metal, I knew I was hooked. The torch, the tools, the precision--I loved it all, and to this day that love is unyielding.

After those first classes, I worked for about 6 years as a bench jeweler, repairing, re-sizing, designing, and more. Some of my best designs were produced in large quantities for Robert Redford's Sundance Catalog, and many of my pieces became top sellers for the company I worked for. During those years I learned a lot about the fundamentals of well-worn and well-loved jewelry, how things work and don't work design-wise and mechanically. Most of all, I learned that my desire to make original, one of a kind pieces, made right here in the USA (and not mass produced outside of the country), was the thing that was most important to me. That's when I quit my 'day job' and started Erica Freestone handmade artisan jewelry.

Now, everything I make is proudly made by my own two hands in my studio in Pacific Grove, California. I use recycled metals and conflict free stones whenever possible. Each bezel, each ring shank, jump ring and hammer mark are all done by me in my studio workshop. Often times designs start out as an idea in my head and a quick sketch in my notebook. Most of the time it is the stone that speaks to me, and I build the metal to showcase the stone. I believe handmade pieces have a different feeling than mass produced pieces. There is always a story behind something handmade, and I believe that the love I put into my work continues on in that piece's life forever.

This work is my utmost joy, and knowing it can make others happy, too, compounds that joy tenfold. It is an honor to be part of your story.

Please make sure your address on etsy is correct as this is the address I use.

SHIPPING UPGRADES (Priority Mail, Express Mail, FedEx, UPS, Overnight, insurance, etc) also available, please contact me before purchase to arrange.

US DOMESTIC SHIPPING

I ship USPS First Class Mail with insurance for the full price of the item and tracking which usually takes 3-5 business days, not including lead time for made to order items (see item's description).

I ship to the address listed on your etsy account. Please make sure your address is correct.

You will receive an email from etsy once I ship your item out.

I am not responsible for packages that are delayed, damaged, or lost in transit. I package everything with the utmost care; once the item is in the hands of the shipping carrier I no longer control how it is handled. If your package is lost, delayed, or damaged in transit I will do my absolute best to help figure out how to resolve the issue but please know I can't do anything until 20 days have elapsed. Please contact me as soon as you can if there seems to be a problem and we'll try to come up with a solution.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

International customers: In some cases I remove an international shipping option for various reasons, mostly that the shipping of fine jewelry with certain values to some countries is restricted or prohibited, and/or requires shipping carriers I don't normally use, and/or incurs customs fees that I want to make sure you're aware of. If you don't see your country listed please contact me to set up your shipping option.

Packages shipped internationally must go through your country's customs. Occasionally packages are delayed in customs for periods of several weeks. Unfortunately, there is nothing I nor the US Postal Service can do about this. Therefore, I can't guarantee any specific arrival date when shipping internationally.

My international shipping fee does not include insurance. I do not give refunds or exchanges on international orders that are not shipped with insurance and tracking--this is a service you must arrange with me prior to purchase.

The cost for Express International shipping with insurance, FedEx, or UPS shipping will vary by country and value of the merchandise, but will generally be between $40-120. Please contact me before purchasing to set up these services.

IMPORT DUTY and/or TAXES are the SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER.
I will not reimburse for any fees, duties, taxes, or other charges made by your country on my products.

I am not responsible for uninsured international packages lost in the mail.

I must fill out a customs form to ship into your country. I am legally required to state the full retail price of the item in US dollars and I will indicate that I am shipping jewelry merchandise. I will not falsify customs documents (i.e. write 'gift' or undervalue the merchandise)--thank you for your understanding on this issue!
Additional policies and FAQs
***FAQs***

Q. How is my order coming along?
A. You can always follow my instagram account @ericafreestone where you may see your piece in the making! I'm a one woman show, so please expect the full lead time for any of my Made To Order items. I promise I'm working hard to get your order out as soon as I can and will always meet the deadline.

If you are wondering when your order will ship, click on 'You' at the top right of your etsy home page, then select 'Purchases and Reviews'. Once you find your order from my shop it will tell you the expected ship date. If I expect to ship out sooner than this date I will notify you. Occasionally I ship out before this date depending on my current workload, but in general please expect the full lead time for me to hand make your item. Lead times are explicitly written in each listing. You will receive an email from etsy with the tracking number when your package does go out.

Q. I need this faster than your lead time, can you rush the order?
A. Yes!
--READY TO SHIP--I can arrange upgraded shipping for you prior to purchase for items that are listed as READY TO SHIP--please contact me in advance of placing the order so I can add the additional shipping.

--MADE TO ORDER items--I offer a RUSH fee to put your order at the head of my order queue. The RUSH fee is dependent on a variety of factors: how many orders I have ahead of yours, how I build the item, how many days (or hours) I have to make it, if I have the materials on hand, where you're located in the world, and how much it will cost to ship it to get it to you by your timeline. This can run upwards of 25-150% of the price of the piece. Please contact me before purchasing to arrange this service.

Q. How can we arrange a payment plan and what does that mean?
A. I am happy to break up the final cost to make it easier. Orders under $500 can be divided into two payments, a 50% non-refundable down payment will initiate the order, and a 50% remaining balance + shipping due upon completion of the item and before it is sent to you. Orders over $500 can be divided into 3 and sometimes 4 payments depending on the timeline. I will create a 'custom listing' for you here on etsy and email you the link to it for each payment.

Q. Can you work with my stone or melt down my old jewelry?
A. I do not work with customer's stones or reuse metal from old jewelry.

------------------CUSTOM ORDERS AND BESPOKE BRIDAL:

****UPDATE May 27, 2018: At this time I am not taking on any custom orders due to my workload. Please check back soon as I will be opening a limited amount of custom slots as time and creativity allows.****

Allowing you to bring your ideas and wishes to the design process is important to me. I listen, gather information, and advise you on gemstone and metal selection as well as design options that fit into all the things that are important to you.

CUSTOM: Small adjustments to existing designs can be easily made. Perhaps you'd like to have a different metal or swap out a gemstone or make just a small change to something I already make.

BESPOKE: If your idea is a little more complicated than that, let's schedule an appointment either in person in my design studio in Pacific Grove, CA or over the phone or FaceTime. This type of work is much too complicated over email! I love taking on custom work that is meaningful, personal, and highly functional. If you have an idea like this in mind and would like to hire me to make it for you, please contact me with your vision and we'll go from there!

To start the conversation, please contact me and provide me with some information about your custom design ideas. I require a $200 non-refundable Consultation & Design Deposit which will go to the final price of the custom/bespoke piece. Once the design has been finalized and a 50% deposit is made, typically custom work has my normal turn around time of 4 weeks. Sometimes this process can take a little longer but we will always define a 'due date' which I will stick to!

You can see an ever-growing portfolio of my work here: http://www.ericafreestone.com/portfolio

-------------------CARING FOR YOUR JEWELRY:

Each package contains an informational card which explains the Do's and Don'ts of caring for your new handcrafted jewelry, but here is some pre-purchase info:

With normal wear and exposure to air, sterling silver will eventually tarnish. This is not indicative of poor quality but the nature of the alloy. Simply clean with a polishing cloth and voila--it's just like new.

Store your jewelry in a clean, dry place (i.e. not the bathroom).

Remove your rings before washing your hands, going swimming, gardening, cleaning, applying lotions or hairsprays, moving heavy objects, etc.

Softer stones (like pearl, opal, turquoise) should never be put in an ultrasonic cleaner.

Prongs and settings should be periodically checked by your local jeweler.

-----------------CHANGING YOUR ORDER:

Changes to your order, especially the size of a ring after purchase may incur additional fees. I create my pieces one by one, and process them in the order they were received. If I've already started that process with your order I then have to either size the ring by cutting it open, removing or adding material, soldering it back closed, and cleaning up the joint, a process that is further complicated if stones have already been set. In some cases I have to re-make the ring entirely. If you need to change the size of your ring please contact me right away and we'll see what we can do.

---------------------ENGAGEMENT RINGS, STONES, ADDITIONAL INFO:

Please do your research when purchasing engagement rings intended for every day wear and align that knowledge with your (or her) lifestyle. Diamonds and gold are traditionally used because a diamond is the hardest stone you can buy and gold is the toughest metal you can wear. I offer alternatives to diamonds and gold because not everyone can afford those luxuries and some women don't want them! These alternatives come with different care methods that I cannot be held responsible for. So, please do your research!

If you have any questions about any of this, please don't hesitate to contact me! I'm glad to help.

---------------------WHITE GOLD:

I use 14k and 18k white gold that contains nickel and do not rhodium plate any of my white gold pieces. I can, however, arrange rhodium plating for an additional fee. Please get in touch with me if you would like to add this before purchase.

----------------------DAMAGES AND REPAIRS:

I take great pride in the quality and craftsmanship of my work. That being said, my pieces are not indestructible and, like any piece of handcrafted fine jewelry, care must be taken to maintain the condition of your piece. Please follow common sense guidelines as well as the informational card included in your package to keep your jewelry looking its best. If you ever have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Although unlikely, if for any reason your item requires repair that is due to a mistake on my part in the first year after purchase, I am happy and eager to fix it for you free of charge.

-----------------RING SIZING:

--I recommend having your finger sized by a reputable and professional jeweler with a sizer that is the same or very similar to the width of the ring you intend to purchase. If you don't know your size, please know that you can walk in to any jewelry store and they will size you FOR FREE and (most likely) with a smile on their face.

--DO NOT USE sizers printed off the internet or strings. These are almost always incorrect!

--I offer a plastic re-usable sizer in my shop that is 4mm wide and is in general fairly accurate. I also give a full discount for the sizer off your next ring purchase with me. If you don't have a local jeweler this is the next best option: https://www.etsy.com/listing/222412388/ring-sizer-adjustable-ring-sizing-tool?ref=shop_home_active_8

--I cannot emphasize enough that it's always better to get the ring in the correct size the first time around.

----------------HOW TO FIND OUT SOMEONE'S RING SIZE:

*Woman's AVERAGE ring finger size is a 6 1/2. If you don't know her size this is a fairly good bet and keep in mind most rings can be sized by a professional jeweler*

I really don't have any secrets to figuring out someone's ring size other than perhaps swiping a ring they often wear (on the finger you plan on putting the new ring on), taking it to your local jeweler to have it sized, and then replacing it before they notice. And my best advice if you don't know their size? Just ask. People are funny, you may think you know what they want but if you asked you might be surprised at what they say. Communication is key to a happy relationship and thus a happy marriage, so start early and see what she/he says! I bet you'll find out a lot more than what their size is, and you'll be happy you did.

------------------WEDDING TIMELINE:

I strongly recommend ordering your wedding rings AT LEAST 3 months before your wedding date to ensure you have plenty of time with them in case they need re-sized or they get delayed during shipping.

Frequently asked questions
Do you do custom work?

Due to my workload right now I'm only taking a limited number of bespoke jewelry work with a minimum order of $1500/piece. If you are looking for something totally one of a kind and unique I would love to work one on one with you to build your dream. Please feel free to get in touch with me here or email me at freestonejewels@gmail.com.

You can check out my portfolio here:
www.ericafreestone.com/portfolio

Can you re-size my ring if it's incorrect?

It's usually best to bring your ring into a local jeweler who can size your ring exact to your finger and exactly to how you'd like it to fit. An experienced and proficient bench jeweler should be able to size most of my designs up or down a bit without much trouble.

If you can't find anyone able/willing to do it of course I can help! My base fee to re-size a ring is $25 + return shipping; it could be additional fees for more material. I'm a one woman show so your patience is very much appreciated.

Some designs aren't cut out for size adjustments, that's why it's always always always best to know the correct ring size before ordering. In some cases it's best to exchange for a different size. Convo me here, we'll figure it out!

Do you accept payment plans or layaway?

I am happy to accommodate payment plans over the course of several months. Orders under $500 can be split into 2 payments, and orders above $500+ can be split into 3 payments or sometimes more depending on the final balance. Please contact me and I will arrange special listings for you and send you the links. Items must be paid for in full before I will ship the item to you.

Do you have a craftsmanship guarantee?

I take great pride in each piece that I make, and I have built my entire business model around making work that is both beautiful and built to withstand the test of time. That being said, like any piece of fine jewelry, my work is not indestructible and requires special care. Enclosed in each package is a card that explains how to best care for your unique, handmade jewelry.

Although unlikely, if anything should happen to your piece within the first year of purchase that is my fault (like a stone is loose) I am happy and eager to repair it--free of charge. Normal wear-and-tear damage is the monetary responsibility of the client but I am happy to take a look and see how I can fix it!

How far in advance do you recommend placing an order for a wedding ring?

I strongly recommend placing the order for wedding rings 3 MONTHS (or more) in advance of your wedding to allow additional time for un-planned shipping delays or the need for re-sizing.

My typical turn around time is about 3-4 weeks for any of my Made To Order items, and shipping will add additional time (usually abut 3-5 business days in the US). If you need it quicker than my normal turn around time, I am happy to rush your order. Please see info below regarding Rush Orders.

What is your Return and Exchange Policy?

If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, please contact me right away. Please don't give me a negative review without contacting me first.

READY TO SHIP items may be returned to me within 7 days of delivery. Items must be in their original, unworn condition and sent in the same or similar packaging. Please contact me within 3 days of delivery.

MADE TO ORDER Items are completely handmade to your order preferences at the time of order and are considered personalized to you. I can offer an exchange or store credit for the full price of the item or a return minus a 25% processing fee. I must be contacted within 3 days of delivery of item, and package must be sent back within 7 days of delivery.

Sale items are final sale.

Can you Rush my Order?

In most cases, yes. I can usually rush an order for an additional fee to put your order at the top of my order queue. I've found this is the fairest way to do this.

The fee amount is dependent upon several factors--if I have the materials on hand, how quickly I need to make it, how many orders I have in advance of yours, how much sleep I'm losing ;-) and where I need to send it in the world. This can range in fee anywhere from 5-150% of the actual price of the piece.

Please contact me prior to purchase and let me know these things:
1. Which item exactly and if it's a ring what size (i.e. Men's Viking Wedding Ring, 14k white gold, Unisex width, size 10)
2. The date you need the item
3. Where I would be shipping it in the world

What if I want a different metal/a different stone/a different setting/different finish from one of your designs? Can you do that?

Definitely! If you are looking to alter one of my designs in a small way I can absolutely do that!

Common ways to customize my designs include things like:
-A different stone or a different sized stone (like a natural diamond in place of a moissanite, a moonstone instead of a labradorite, a 2 carat instead of a 1 carat, etc)
-A different metal (like all sterling silver or all 14k rose gold instead of two tone)
-A different setting (like a bezel setting instead of a prong setting and vice versa)
-A wider or narrower version (like a 3mm width rather than a 6.5mm width)
-A different finish (like satin rather than high polish)
-Add flush set diamonds in the shoulders of a ring

Please don't hesitate to get in touch!

Can this ring be made with a diamond rather than a Forever One moissanite?

Yes! I am happy to source for you a natural or lab created diamond. Please let me know your budget and/or preferences and I can quote you a couple options. I have access to CanadaMark (conflict-free diamonds) and all diamonds come with a certification (like EGL or GIA, etc) so you know exactly what you're buying.

Since I build all my settings from scratch (I don't use molds) my designs can be made to fit a different sized stone than the one pictured.
