I purchased this for a Christmas present for a dear friend who has a Golden. I believed I was buying an original sketch. Imagine my dismay when a copy machine clearly spit out a copy of a sketch, and poorly done at that. I had already bought the frame..it's Christmas Eve, and I am too embarrassed to give this as a gift. It looks like a picture that came with the frame. My partner is out braving the stores to find something else, anything else, to give him instead. At about 40 dollars, I am quite surprised/dismayed/angry.

I am of course sad that you are not happy with your purchase. I do not know where you got the idea that this would be an original sketch. It says right in the title "Print of Drawing", and then goes on to mention it is an art "print" no less than six separate times in the listing. Please contact me if there was a quality issue with the print, and not just being disappointed with it being a print in general.

About

My artwork is intensely personal because I accurately capture loved ones with sensitivity, attention to detail & personality.

My name is Kate Sumners and I am the artist behind Endless Sumners Art. My mainstays are charcoal and pastel portraits of people and pets; I also love photography and watercolor painting. My style is definitely realism and I love to put LOTS of detail in my work. I live in Arizona with my husband Brandon and our two Italian Greyhound 'kids' Toby and Scout. I am grateful to get to make a living doing what I love!

My artwork is intensely personal because I accurately capture loved ones with sensitivity, attention to detail & personality. Portraiture is a type of artwork that will be treasured forever and I want to make charcoal become better known as a gold standard medium like oil is. My favorite compliment is that I have often moved the recipient to tears by realistically capturing and celebrating their loved one.

I don't want the only meaningful aspect of my career to be my paycheck; I want to be remembered because I was "responsible for the talent entrusted to me."

My artwork in almost any size imaginable, framed or unframed is available on http://KateSumners.com

Copyright FAQ:

Artwork is commissioned for personal use only and may not be used for financial gain. You are purchasing an original piece of artwork, however Kate Sumners retains full reproduction copyright on all her work. Images owned by Kate Sumners are not to be used on any other website or printed form, unless written permission has been gained.

Will you sell prints of my pet portrait?

I do generally offer fine art prints of commissioned work I do of pets and animals. I have polled some of my clients, asking how they would feel if I sold prints of the artwork they commissioned of their pets. For the most part, reactions have ranged from fine with it to super excited that their pet will be 'famous'! They also like the idea of a safe, easy place to order greeting cards of their artwork or extra prints in different sizes and on different materials. Copyright laws generally give the artist the copyright on their own work even if the original is sold unless otherwise negotiated. But please, if you are unhappy that I may be offering your pet's image for resale on prints or greeting cards, let me know. Email me at or give me a call and we can negotiate you retaining the copyright on your commission. Many people like to have me sell prints of their pet portrait, because it increases the exposure and value of the original.

Will you sell prints of my child or adult portrait?

No. My clients are much more sensitive to privacy concerns when it comes to themselves or their children so I do not sell art prints of human portraits that were commissioned. I may however use your portrait as a sample of my work in my portfolios or online. If you are uncomfortable with this, just let me know. If on the other hand you would like me to offer art prints and greeting cards of your child's portrait to increase the exposure and value of the original, I am happy to oblige.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost for you to make me a portrait?

50% refundable deposit due on approval of reference photographs

1 subject pet portrait 8"x10" matted to fit 11x14 frame: $130
1 subject pet portrait 11"x14" matted to fit 16x20 frame: $150
Each additional subject in the same portrait: $75

1 subject people portrait 8"x10" matted to fit 11x14 frame: $165
1 subject people portrait 11"x14" matted to fit 16x20 frame: $200
Each additional subject in the same portrait: $75

How long will it take for you to make my custom portrait?

Turnaround time is usually about 2 weeks from when I approve your photos by email to when I complete your portrait. Shipping then takes about 3 business days after I receive the balance of your payment if you are in the USA, longer for other countries. If you are worried about a deadline, message me and I will let you know if it's doable or not.

Is my photo good enough for you to draw or paint me a portrait from it?

I have to be particular about the photo I work off of so that I can deliver a top quality portrait. Please make sure your photos are taken up close, in focus, in good lighting (outdoors in full shade works great) and clearly shows the expression you want me to capture. You can attach your pictures to an Etsy "convo" to me by selecting "Contact" on my shop page. If you have the option, send the largest possible file size picture. Do not shrink or compress the image for best results. If you are unsure whether the pictures you have are good enough for me to work off of, feel free to send them to me and I will give you a free consultation by email with my thoughts.

What size custom portraits do you do?

I offer an 8"x10" size which comes matted to fit an 11"x14" frame

or

an 11"x14" size which comes matted to fit a 16"20" frame

Do you frame?

No. Original portraits come matted but not framed to cut back on shipping expenses and because everyone's taste and decor is different.

The original portraits come matted in black, wrapped in acetate and mounted on foam board which does make for an attractive presentation as a gift.
