From painter to jewelry maker.
I'm a multimedia artist based in Newfoundland, on the east coast of Canada.
Over the past 20 years I have created a large body of work in my studio surrounded by nature. I'm equally comfortable working in a variety of media including oil, acrylic, watercolour, graphite, mixed media and sculpture. I create hand painted canvas journals as well.
I have won awards and my work is in collections locally and worldwide.
I became interested in making jewelry a few years ago when I discovered the art of wire wrapping. I tried it and quickly became hooked.
I was sick one day and decided to fill the time, while resting on the couch, by making jewelry. I made many pieces that day and later on that week a friend of mine brought the shop owner of a lovely boutique to my studio. She immediately purchased the pieces for her shop and that was that. That was in 2008 and my pieces sell out in her shop still.
I made the decision to sell my jewelry online and I'm so happy I did. I love that I can share my work with so many people in all parts of the world.
I chose steel and copper to work with because it is so versatile and I can do really cool things with it. I love the whole process of taking the wire and hammering, tumbling, polishing and oxidizing it. It looks nothing like it started out as. It's like a transformation.
I still paint and exhibit my work while creating jewelry and maintaining my shop.
My jewelry has been published in Belle Armoire Jewelry.
