I learned to crochet when I was still in grade school, and although I also learned to knit, embroider, and tat, I've always enjoyed crocheting the most. My youngest daughter, Molly, sews and crochets. Kayti, my oldest, crochets and knits. Although my middle daughter, Annie, isn't into the "yarn arts", she does many other crafts beautifully. Her daughter, Maddie, is learning to crochet, although she doesn't have much time to fit it in between school, band, and crossfit. She and her little brother, Adren, are willing models for our items. They are also constant sources of joy, inspiration, laughter, and... Oh, sorry - I slipped into grandma mode for a minute there!
Family and friends were asking for crochet items, and I thought others might also be interested, so I decided to open a shop. Besides, I could only make them so many Christmas and birthday gifts!
As a family, we're all pretty geeky. (Ok, really geeky.) We like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Marvel and DC comics, Dr. Who, steampunk...well, you get the idea. These are the sort of things that inspire the designs in our shop, along with fairy tales, cartoons, and anything else that strikes our fancy.
The location of our shop is rather a fluid thing. We live in Small Town, Ohio. I generally work in the corner of my living room, in my favorite chair (an area my family calls my "nest"), or on the porch in nice weather. Molly and Kayti work at home too, but they also take their crocheting with them to work or to their friends'. Matt (Annie's husband) works in his woodshop, The Beard Pit (known to the rest of us as "the shed"). Check out his Facebook page for more of his creations - the link is below!
Molly, Kayti, and I work almost exclusively with acrylic yarn because it's durable and able to be machine washed and dried. After all, who wants to hand wash anything if they don't have to? If there are any special care instructions, we will list them in the item description. Also, we don't use buttons, beads, or anything that could be a choking hazard to small children.
We want to give customers what they want, using traditional (old-fashioned?) techniques to express our love of various fandoms, fantasy, and general geekiness. We want to produce things that people may not be able to find anywhere else and make them with quality workmanship. After all, we make the things we do because we love them, and loving something makes you want to put your best into it.
