About

Grant House Press

Our shop story begins with the closing of another printer's story. His shop closed, was offered for sale in the "Penny-Saver," and we bought it, put it into storage, and finally were able to install it into a new Victorian-style shop.

We print using a Vandercook SP-15, Golding Jobber No. 6, and Golding Pearl No. 3. We use existing lead and wood type, borders, and graphic cuts. We continue to source out vintage type.

We generally print greeting cards, posters and broadsides, notepads, stationary, small pamphlets and booklets, and a variety of ephemera. We are a short-run press - printing limited editions of our ideas. Sure, we may repeat a favorite card when asked, but we have lots of ideas and love to be challenged by new projects. Have an idea? Let's talk!

We belong to the Westchester Chappell - a quirky group of printers who enjoy all aspects of letterpress. It's the oldest continuous local association of avocational letterpress printers. We share ideas, printing, food - lots of food - and the love of printing.

Sharon and Jerry were accepted into the Amalgamated Printer's Association in 2016. The APA is a group of hobby and professional printers who share skills and knowledge, and examples of their printing, We consider ourselves somewhere in the middle - loving every minute of what we do!

Welcome to Grant House Press. We are a small private press in rural upstate New York. Grant House Press resides on a small chicken farm. Maybe we always wanted to be a big farm - hence the number of farm animal images in our work. There is so much more, however, and we hope you enjoy coming back to see what is new.

We love printing cards, broadsides, and small books and pamphlets. Our delight is in traditional imagery and language. You will see, too, playful use of imagery and color in our creations.

We want to strive for perfection. The nature of old type, ink, and life in the country lead us back to the old saying - "you can read it, can't you?"

Most of our prints are short-run. Get 'em while you can, while we have them. We have a good time in the shop coming up with new ideas for projects. If there is something you think we could create for you - just ask. Can't promise anything, but you never know until you ask.
