Thanks for stopping by my shop. I'm Michelle, an Irish graphic designer and digital illustrator with a passion for all things sustainable. I create retro-inspired illustrations and reproduce these on various media, in the most sustainable and environmentally friendly manner possible.
In a world that is overly saturated with technology, Ha'penny Design is championing the traditional ways of keeping in touch with loved ones. The idea for our wooden postcards, came about during the Covid 19 pandemic when we were unable to travel more than 5km within our own city to visit loved ones. Tiring of endless zoom calls, I started posting little gifts to family and friends. I created the wooden postcards with illustrations of Irish villages as an homage to the Vintage Tourism Posters of the 1950's, when travel was a rare unattainable experience, just as it was again during the pandemic.
These wooden postcards are a sustainable alternative to the traditional postcard. Where the traditional postcard would usually end up in the trash, these wooden postcards are a durable dual purpose gift, a message and a unique piece of art all in one!
All Ha’penny Design products are made locally in Ireland. As well as this, all our suppliers and materials are sourced in Ireland. In doing so, we ensure that our carbon emissions are significantly reduced when it comes to producing our products, but it is also hugely important to us that we are directly supporting our local economy.
At Ha’penny Design, we are always trying to be as environmentally conscious as possible. From the products we produce & the suppliers we buy from (Eco Friendly & Irish where possible) to the packaging we use.
▪︎ Any plastic we do use such as bubble wrap have all been reused. We keep the packaging from deliveries we receive in, so that we can then reuse it to package our own orders.
▪︎ We drive a fully electric vehicle meaning our emissions are significantly reduced when producing & shipping our products.
▪︎ All our products are produced on the island of Ireland. Our greeting cards in particular are eco-friendly, printed with plant based inks which are more earth friendly than conventional fossil based inks and they are printed with 100% recycled paper and envelopes.
▪︎ The packaging we use for our prints and greeting cards are 100% biodegradable. We use a plant based material instead of using any plastic.
▪︎ We use environmentally friendly methods in all areas of our business, that are not seen by the general public including; 100% recycled paper for general printing purposes; chemical free plant based cleaning products; and paper based tapes instead of plastics.
Every sale we get means so much to us and we do everything possible to ensure that our customers are satisfied, striving for great design, excellent quality, quick delivery and personalised customer service.
