The studio that love built...
I hope you enjoy these pieces as much as I enjoy making them! All pieces are handmade in Houston, Texas, either in my backyard studio, or at Foelber Pottery, where I continue to learn and grow my skills. Pieces are thrown on a wheel, handbuilt, or some combination of the two methods. Unless otherwise noted in product descriptions, all pieces are microwave and dishwasher safe, fired to stoneware temperatures, and decorated with foodsafe materials.
History of Heartleaf Studio:
Back in the early aughts I decided to take a pottery class at University of Houston. Under the instruction of a lovely man named Huey Beckham, I completely fell in love with clay. I wasn't an art major, and thus not allowed to go beyond the introductory class, but Mr. Beckham saw my eyes afire and allowed me to re-take the intro class, substituting more challenging assignments. But, alas, when the class was over, so was my access to the studio.
Around graduation I met the man who was to become my husband, Michael. In no time we bought a small home in a lovely neighborhood in Oak Forest, Houston, Texas. To keep my hands busy I tried several hobbies but I was never satisfied. Crocheting left my fingers numb, learning the ukulele left them blistered, needle felting left them poked. One night I said to Michael, sadly, "it's too bad I can't do pottery anymore."
He said, "why not?"
So for a wedding gift to me, he (quite literally) built and equipped a studio in our backyard.
Back off, ladies. He's taken. ;)
So anyway, it turns out that, over six years, when you have a studio in your backyard (and then you start taking classes to get better - shout out to Foelber Pottery!), you start to get better at your hobby...and then you start to accumulate some pretty pieces...and then your friends start to ask if you'll make them something...and then they encourage you to set up an Etsy store.
Again, I hope you enjoy these pieces as much as I have loved making them. Thanks for stopping by! <3
