About

Blended fibres, beautiful colours, unusual combinations

I taught myself to spin in 2009 and my love affair with fibre has seen me through several jobs, relationships and houses. I spend my day surrounded by wool, and colour.

HilltopCloud was set up in 2011 when I left my job as a teacher. I always enjoyed combining colour, and different fibres, and that love has translated in to my full time business.

I now work full time dyeing fibres, and creating beautiful blends. In my Etsy shop I sell my handspun yarns. I have a bit of an obsession with spinning, and like many of us, a shortage of hours in the day. Rather than drown in my own handspun stash I send it out around the world so others can use it to create beautiful things.

I also sell drop spindle kits, perfect for people who want to learn to spin, but aren't sure if they want to invest in a spinning wheel. I pride myself on selling spindles which are simple, yet effective. They aren't complicated, or decorative, but they do work, which is the most important thing.

I'm passionate about wool, and it's qualities, it really is a wonder fibre, with so much variety. Every breed has it's use.

I have a love working with colour, I like beautiful combinations that are pleasing to the eye. I use tonal colours, often paired with an undyed natural wool to give a subtle depth to the blend.

I live in rural mid-Wales. I spend my days surrounded by colour, and beautiful fibre. I think I have the best job in the world and am really happy to be able to share what I create.

Welcome to Hilltop Cloud- Spin Different

This shop is home to my Learn to Spin Kits and handspun yarns. I still sell my hand dyed fibre and blended fibres on my independent website.
https://hilltop-cloud.myshopify.com

I live and work in rural Mid-Wales and share my home with 2 lovely dogs, I try to keep everything as uncontaminated as possible, but can't guarantee no stray hairs. No members of my household smoke.

Please note that colours appear differently on different computer screens. I do my best to make sure that the colours in photos are as close to the original fibre as possible.

Most of my fibres are suitable for handwashing only, unless the listing explicitly says the fibre is superwash, in which case machine washing at low temperatures is possible, but over a long period of time you may see some fading of colour, wash a swatch in your machine to check for shrinkage and fading.

My items are sent out in biodegradable mailers, but please re-use them if you can. I try to recycle packaging as much as possible. I don't do fancy, disposable, gift packaging, items are sent out sealed in zip lock plastic bags. That way you get it in the best possible condition, and there's as little waste as possible.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
You can pay for your order via Paypal, or using Etsy's Direct Checkout with a credit or debit card.

If you pay via e-check then I can't send the items until after the e-check has cleared, if it is an international e-check then this can take more than a week.

You can cancel your order at any time before the order has been posted out, please contact me to arrange this. Once your order has been posted I won't be able to refund you until the item is returned to me.

VAT of 20% will be charged on all orders within the UK and the European Union.
Shipping
Parcels are only sent out on Mondays and Thursday due to the opening hours of my small local post office. I live in a remote location and it is not possible to send orders outside of these times.

I send all regular orders below £100 in value using a regular non-tracked service. Orders over this amount are sent using a tracked service at no extra cost.
If you would like to add tracking to any order below £100 in cost please contact me.

I charge postage at as close to cost as possible.
Shipping will automatically be combined and discounted when you add items to your cart.
In general, for items weighing 100g postage is as follows-
UK £3 +VAT , additional items no extra cost
Europe £4, additional items cost £1 each
Everywhere Else £5, additional items £2.50 each

Items weighing more than 100g have a higher postage cost.
The quickest way to check your total postage costs is to add items to your cart and let the coding do it's magic, it will work out the price accurately for multiple items. Until you checkout it's always possible to remove items.
______________________________________________________________

I currently send all UK mail using a 48hour service, most items arrive 2 days after posting, but it can take slightly longer.

Please allow up to 15 working days for UK mail from dispatch for an item to arrive, 20 working days for European mail, 25 working days for all other international mail.
In my experience post often arrives far quicker than this, but I can't report an item as missing with Royal Mail until after these periods of time have elapsed.
If it remains missing after this time I will do my best to replace your order or will offer you a refund.

_______________________________________________________________

International orders over certain values (this varies depending on your country) may be charged customs fees. This is out of my control, and any fees that the items incur are at the buyers expense. I am more than happy to split parcels so they come in under the customs limit, please send me a message with your purchase and I will let you know if you need to pay any extra postage. It is illegal for me to mark parcels as a "gift".
Please check that what you are purchasing will be allowed through customs in your country, if items are returned to me due to being refused by customs I will refund the cost of the item, but not the shipping fees.

I print out the invoice generated by Etsy to use as your shipping address. Please make sure this address is correct. If you need it sent to another address please send me a message at the time of purchasing.
Refunds and Exchanges
Items are sold as seen, I want you to be happy with your order, please make sure you read the item description so you know exactly what you're buying!
If you have any questions please contact me.

If you are not happy with your item I will accept returns, but at the buyers expense, unless the item is in some way faulty. Refunds will not be processed until the item is returned to me, I recommend you use a form of delivery that requires a signature for your own peace of mind. If you wish to return your item you must contact me within 14 days of receiving your item.

If an item arrives damaged I will refund, or replace the damaged part of your order.

If there are any problems with your order, please contact me. I will work with you to make it right.
Additional policies and FAQs
Colour varies from computer to computer. I try to represent the shades as accurately as I can, some shades, particularly reds and purples, are notoriously hard to photograph. For the most part I don't edit my photos at all, apart from cropping them. I occasionally adjust photos to make sure that what I see on screen matches the true colour of the fibre.

All items are sold subject to UK laws and legislation.

Frequently asked questions

Wholesale availability

Sorry, I can't supply my items on a wholesale basis

Care instructions

Handspun yarn should be washed carefully. All yarn has been washed before it has been listed for sale. I use hand hot water, and fragrance free detergent.
I don't recommend the rinse-free wool washes, they seem to make colours bleed.

Custom and personalised orders

Sorry, I can't do any custom spinning at present.
