Flute Maker / Toy Photographer
My name is Joseph Cowlishaw and I am a Designer/Flute Maker. I have been making flutes for nearly fifteen years.
I love to hike and get outside and I also love to play the Native American style flute. I was hiking one time and accidentally cracked my flute that was packed in my bag. I decided to create a condensed version utilizing the ocarina shape. My pocket Swirl Wowflute was born! After perfecting it over the years I have handmade over 50,000 Swirl Wowflutes and have sold them all! They sound crisp and have a nice clear tone. When people come by my booth at markets and events they almost always have the same reaction, "All that sound comes from that little thing?... Wow!"
Wow in Wowflute actually stems from my first business name: Wahsilwoc Whistle Ocarinas. Wahsilwoc is just my last name backwards. An ocarina is a closed vessel flute, and whistle describes the portable nature of the wowflute.
I am a fan of dual-functionality in design and so I incorporated that element into my products. Functional musical jewelry! I love the scene from Pixar's Ratatouille with the food critic. He takes a bite of Ratatouille and is immediately transported to his childhood memories of good happy days. I strive to bring that kind of nostalgia to my products. New with a familiar twist.
I have an engineering degree but felt so isolated in the engineering field that I started making items to sell on the side. Now all I do is make and sell my products and it is so much more fulfilling than being an expensive wage slave making someone at the top of the corporate pyramid wealthy. I am glad for your visit to my little space here on Etsy and I appreciate your business. Your business provides me the ability to escape the 9-5 and still provide an excellent living for my wife and our five children. Life is good. Always remember that Stressed backwards spells Desserts.
