John + Jess, a juicy combination.
Having graduated in May of 2010, we decided to take a leap of faith and move to a place where we had never been, didn't know anybody, and had no employment. Arriving in Austin, Texas by mid-August, our dynamic pair began working two jobs each in retail.
By December of 2010, a creative outlet was in dire need. Taking inspiration from a pioneering friend, jpear Design (John + Jess, a pair of j's, get it?) opened shop with a few experimental works in jewelry.
The spring found us taking clay classes (Jess has been throwing for years, John does his best). Early May at First Thursdays in downtown Austin was our first real life appearance. That show forced us to become a serious business and propelled us into the summer.
Ceramics became our staple. In August of 2011 we began taking in and giving new life to discarded furniture as well as developing our own designs and custom works.
Gradually we are figuring out how to keep pushing our creative talents while always striving for the best quality of craftsmanship. We have found that we have different styles, but that they play very well off of each other.
We believe that our passion for design is reflected in our work and that each piece we make is a piece of ourselves. We love sharing this love with the world and we hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do!
