Hello,
my name is Jake Ryder. Some call me, "Jake", "Ryder", "Jacob", or "J Ryde". Originally from Boise, Idaho, I grew up skateboarding and snowboarding and have always had a fascination with the chaotic way human interaction altered the appearance of objects. Working in skate shops I learned to tell a lot about what type of skater someone was by the marks on the bottom of their board. Each one tells a different story. Each piece of furniture becomes a playful storyboard of human activity.
Moving away from Boise I spent 10 years living and working in Seattle, Washington and recently relocated to Portland, Oregon. Over the years I have experimented with a wide variety of materials to construct a visually striking furniture line that's both colorful and comfortable. There is a constant push in all of my work to use recycled materials and eliminate waste wherever possible.
Come by my shop and say "Hi" some time, or if you're lucky enough to live in Portland and you see me out riding around town a high-five will be just as good.
