Announcement   My art and jewelry celebrate the beauty and the importance of nature in our lives, often with some humour thrown in for good measure. All of my work is based on my own photography and made in the studio that stands behind my house.

The local crows regard me as the paparazzi, and when I'm not watching them, I'm thinking about why they're so important to me. I believe that a love of Nature, and the willingness to take action to save it, starts with the particular rather than the general. For me, the "particular" is the crow, but it's different for everyone. I regularly write about my thoughts on this subject, along with entertaining profiles of some of my local crow personalities, on my blog, The Urban Nature Enthusiast. https://junehunterimages.wordpress.com

About

Wherever You Go, There You Are

I’m a photographer/artist/mother/gardener/bird lover living in Vancouver, BC.

I was born in the north of England. I grew up in the most urban environment you can imagine. We lived in a flat right under the iconic Tyne Bridge. The rusting leftovers of the industrial revolution and fragments of the Roman Wall were my playgrounds. I loved it and felt like a wild child playing in that forest of iron and stone.

After studying English Literature (specializing in Anglo-Saxon poetry) I moved to Canada. In my early twenties I lived in northern BC where I hand-built a cabin. In stark contrast to my childhood home, my nearest human neighours were miles away and I was surrounded by hundreds of square miles of trees and wild life. I often went days without seeing another person. I loved that too!

I think I have now found a happy medium, living here in East Vancouver with my family. Walking distance from the downtown core, but (clouds permitting) you can see the mountains from here. I am lucky enough to have a wonderful studio to work from right in my back yard.

Born in the north of England I got my first camera at the age of 9. I studied Anglo Saxon poetry in Wales and came to Canada in 1976. There I built my own cabin in the remote north. Now in Vancouver, I have been a full-time artist since 2006.

My work is inspired by nature. I happen to live in the city of Vancouver, but I find that there is plenty going on, nature and inspiration-wise, in this urban setting. Grand nature, out in the wilds, is lovely — but I'm a great believer in appreciating the small natural wonders we find right on our doorsteps, if we take a moment to look.
I have a blog, The Urban Nature Enthusiast, where I explore this idea.

My images are based on my own original photographs and then altered by layering them with other images images of sky, textures, memorabilia from my family history. The image becomes further altered by the different materials it is applied to - silver, marble, paper, glass, wood - all add their own subtle textures or sheen to the finished work.
