Apifera Farm is a magical place where artist Katherine Dunn communes with creatures and land that inspire all her work. She paints, writes, and makes raggedy messes. Her work is collected internationally and her art is showcased on Sundance. She writes a popular blog and has written/illustrated five books with more on the way.

Apifera Farm became a non profit when it relocated from Oregon to Main in 2016. Their mission is to take in elder/special needs animals [which they have always done] but now they share those animals with elderly people through in home visits and farm visits. You can meet all The Misfits at the blog. http://apiferafarm.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_14.html

{Please note: when you buy items here your money is not a donation it is income to Katherine Dunn/artist unless a specific sale or item is marked as specifically for the non profit's cause]

I love the whimsical charm of Katherine’s drawings. Her huge heart for the elderly be it animals or people comes to life in her art. These cards are small pieces of art that make me smile and those that receive them. They arrived quickly from order placement to mailbox.

When I saw Katherine’s amazing store I wanted to own every piece
of art in it. She is a brilliant artist. Her animals have so much personality and I love her particular style. I chose this print as I fell in love with the donkey. He is an absolute darling. I want to throw my arms around him and hug him. I think this piece of art is wonderful from donkey to the background and the colors. The print is so well done it looks like an original piece of art. I can’t wait to have it framed.
This shipped fast and was very well packaged in a mailing tube.
I am saving up my money to buy another one of Katherine’s marvelous pieces of art.

These are such delightful cards. The rabbits have such dear faces as they celebrate with cake. They have a lot of personality. The card is very detailed with lovely coloring. There is a different painting on the other side of the card which is a wonderful idea. A rabbit is watching young birds in a tree. It is intricate, colorful and the rabbit and birds endearing. I plan to frame the card as I love it. Katherine is a brilliant artist and I wanted to buy everything in her marvelous store.
The cards shipped fast and were well packaged.
I also purchased a wonderful print as well which is on its way to me. I can’t wait. Such fabulous purchases.

About

Woman merging with animal and nature at Apifera Farm

Katherine is painter and writer, but also loves to sew and create hand made creatures of cloth and fiber. Her art merges her own essence with those of the barn animals that surround her-as well as small rodents. She believes her father comes to her as a mouse.

Katherine began her art career in Minneapolis where she illustrated for clients such as Target, Neiman Marcus, Hallmark, Gourmet, and Wall St. Journal. Her work has received awards from Communication Arts, Print, American Illustration and Society of Illustrators. But writing has always been a passion too and when she moved to her farm in 2004 in rural Oregon, she was surrounded by new animal characters with stories popping up all around her. There her little donkey Pino became a favorite muse and stars in several of her illustrated pieces. He also hosted a giant Pino Pie Party every year where funds were raised for one of Katherine's big passions- helping senior and needy barn animals [and sharing her homemade pie.

In 2016, the couple made a bold decision–to leave their beloved farm in Oregon, and relocate the animals and farm to mid coast Maine. After a six day journey, all animals and humans arrived safely and made Apifera a non profit so Katherine could expand her work with animals, but also share those animals with elder people.

She has written five books, available in her shop. Her ever popular blog highlights her conversations with chickens and the loving cast of characters in her barnyard. Her first book, "Creative Illustration Workshop" [2010] was named third on the Top Ten Art Books by the US Amazon editors. Her paintings are showcased on Sundance.
