THE SHORT…
I spent a decade living in little-to-no room New York City apartments. To stay organized and sane, I knew I had to get creative. So I turned to my DIY roots and made macrame pieces that helped maximize every square inch of my space.
THE LONG…
It all started with a light. Not the ‘I saw the light’ kinda way. I’m talking about the first time I made a macrame light. Little did I know that it would eventually get me on here and be my first-ever Etsy listing.
The light was born in my East Village apartment. Apartments in NYC are notoriously small, but mine was real tight. I’m talking hop out of bed with only enough space for me to squeezzeee between my mattress and the wall to get to my door kinda tight. Ironically, it was the largest bedroom I lived in during my whole stint in NYC and I loved every square inch of it.
The tiny space was rough, but the bigger issue was the light situation. All I had was a big, bright fluorescent boob light. I wish I could say this was a pro-femme type of light. But no. If you’ve lived in an apartment, you’ve likely come across this eyesore.
Even though the room was small, it had high ceilings. So much so that I’d put a step ladder on my bed to switch out a bulb. Clearly, I had to find another option. So I got to thinking and realized the only space I had to work with was the ceiling height.
I’d been into the macrame look and wanted something unique. So I figured, why not make a hanging light out of macrame? So naturally, my next step was going on YouTube to learn about it, got the supplies, did the deed...and LOVED it. I saw that my friends were just as much into it as I was. They constantly nudged me to share the light on here and I haven't looked back since.
I’ve expanded my shop from macrame lights to all types of macrame home decor and baby nursery decor. Each piece has a story inspired by my experiences.
Working with macrame over the years has become my affordable therapy / quasi meditation routine. I'm also the type that overthinks everything, so I spend hours making sure your order is looking 100% when it lands at your doorstep.
I'm still starstruck by every order placed, review posted and how this whole thing has unfolded for me thus far. Here’s to hoping this side hustle turns into my full hustle...or if anything, a really good story.
