All Textiles, All the Time!
I have been weaving tapestries since the mid-70's when I majored in Fibers at Kansas City Art Institute, with a BFA. I learned many textile techniques from spinning and dyeing fibers, knitting and crocheting, and weaving, which won my heart. I still use almost all of these techniques in one way or another, sometimes just for fun.
I went on to get my MFA at Cranbrook Academy of art, continuing my focus on weaving fine art tapestries, and gained a depth of critical insight which helped me to develop my ideas in depth.
All these years, I have been an established fine art weaver, with work in museums such as The Art Institute of Chicago, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Archives of the Venice Biennale, The Denver Art Museum, Cranbrook Academy of Art/Museum, Racine Art Museum, The Reading Public Museum, and others. My art is in many private collections as well!
I have won prizes and awards -- state, national, and international.
And I take time to have fun with fibers too, from sewing, to screen printing, to doll making, to textile design for home furnishings. It has been an utterly satisfying career!
