libby schrum design is a furniture design studio, located in midcoast Maine, specializing in the design and creation of contemporary furniture pieces that function as every day objects without compromising artistic appeal. Inspired by the simplicity and function of both the Early American antique furniture she grew up with and the Mid-Century Modern aesthetic she has come to appreciate, each piece is designed and executed with balance in mind - the balance between function and aesthetics, craft and design, hand work and machine processes. Intrigued by the patterns of day-to-day living, Libby develops unique and artful design solutions that address functional requests; quiet and sophisticated objects that represent the sensibilities and soul of the designer and equally satisfy the dreams and vision of the client.
Recently, libby schrum design has begun to introduce smaller objects. Inspired by the same balance between function and aesthetics, these pieces offer solutions to the nuances of daily life. “Cambio” coin banks, artfully solve the problem of where to stash that pocket full of change. And they have a nostalgic quality…they remind us why it feels good to save. Even the smallest rituals should be celebrated.
