Classically inspired with a modern twist
Madder Root creates art for the kitchen. We make premium quality tea towels, napkins, and other products using 100% organic linen fabric. Each piece is individually cut, print, and sewn in our Maine studio making them functional and beautiful additions for your home.
We love what we do. My husband Andy and I get to wake up every day and make things. We switch off between work and raising our 4 year old daughter and 15 month old son depending on what needs to be done. Our basement studio allows us the flexibility to live simply and enjoy watching our children experience the world.
I also get to work with one of my best friends. Ashley and I went to art school together and now we get to spend our days sewing, designing, and creating our ever expanding line of products.
When I'm not working and it is summer I'm playing in the dirt, if it is winter I'm knitting. Every night I'm in the kitchen cooking. No matter what I'm doing I have a couple of "helpers" who make everything better.
I have been sewing for 15+ years and when I'm not sewing I run a photography business with my husband Jameson Brown(Jameson Brown Photography!). I would say I am an all around crafter though!

Paypal payments made within three days of placing an order are most appreciated. If the order remains unpaid beyond three days, we will contact you through convo or email to make sure everything is okay with the order. We will consider the order canceled if we do not hear from you and the order remains unpaid for seven days.
You may cancel your order (before the item is shipped) simply by sending us a convo or email. If your order has been shipped, you still may receive a refund upon return of the item. Certain restrictions may apply. See return policies for more information.
Maine Sales Tax
A 5.5% sales tax will be added to orders purchased by Maine residents. Paypal automatically adds the 5.5% to your bill.
Domestic (US) Shipping:
Madder Root orders shipped to the United States are generally sent USPS First Class or Parcel Post with Delivery Confirmation unless otherwise noted in the item description. Priority Shipping and Insurance are available upon request. Estimated delivery is 3 to 7 days, though sometimes USPS takes longer to deliver packages than we would like. Madder Root is not responsible for delays in shipping caused by USPS or other mail carriers. Other shipping options are available upon request. Additional shipping costs for expedited delivery times or alternative shipping venues may apply.
We do combine shipping and will automatically upgrade your First Class order to Priority when it makes sense to do so and if it saves you shipping costs. Over payments on shipping of more than $2 will automatically be refunded.
Madder Root orders shipped internationally are generally sent USPS First Class. Priority Shipping and Insurance are available upon request and shipping costs will be adjusted accordingly. We will send you a convo or email with an estimated delivery time when the order ships. Once the package leaves our hands, we are not responsible for how long it takes USPS or your postal workers to get it to you. Other shipping options are available upon request.

As sellers, we are required to fill out Customs Declarations forms (ex. USPS Form 2979: Customs Declaration CN22 - Sender's Declaration) to ship merchandise out of the United States. Purchase of Madder Root items is a business transaction, not a gift, and will be represented as such. Many countries provide fee exemptions for purchased goods up to a certain limit. Any amount over that limit may be subject to customs duty and value added taxes. Each country's limit and handling of imported merchandise is different. You are responsible for knowing your country's shipping policies and licensing requirements, and for paying any additional duties, taxes or fees that may result from your business transaction.

Replacement for Lost Items:
Delivery Confirmation is provided for all domestic (US) shipments. USPS sends a notice to us when your package arrives. Occasionally, a package gets lost in transit. In this situation, a claim may be made to USPS in an attempt to track the package. We are happy to assist with this process. If it is discovered USPS lost the package or delivered it to a wrong destination (and the package cannot be recovered), we will provide a replacement or refund up to the purchase price of the item. Shipping costs are not included.
For international packages, we will replace the item or provide a store credit up to the value of the purchased item if it has not arrived within 45 days from payment confirmation. Shipping costs are not included.
Replacement for Damaged Items:
We prepare all orders for shipment carefully and with quality materials. Still, damage occasionally occurs during shipment. To qualify for a refund or replacement, you must notify us via convo or email within 24 hours of delivery confirmation that the item arrived damaged. USPS generally provides the receiver with a letter stating the item was damaged in transit. It is helpful for us to have a photograph of this notification along with the damaged item. We will work with you to resolve this issue by providing a refund or replacement for the damaged item.
Refunds and Exchanges
100% Refund: Products returned in original, saleable condition.
50% Refund: Products returned with strong perfume, cigarette or other odors even if no other visible damage is evident. Fabric easily absorbs environmental orders. Odor damaged items may be washed and resold at a discounted price, so we offer a partial refund in this situation.
No Refund or Credit: Products returned visibly damaged, soiled, unusable or beyond the 30 days.
Custom orders may only be returned if suitable for resale to the general public (subject to scrutiny on a case-by-case basis).
Situations not outlined in this return policy will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

From our material to our packaging we work hard to find environmentally friendly supplies without sacrificing quality.
Because linen is made from flax, a natural fiber, there will be some variation in the characteristics (weight, color, weave) of fabric we use. These naturally occurring variations add to the charm and will not affect the quality of the products we offer.
We also custom mix our colors from water-based, solvent free inks. Though we have "recipes" we follow, some variations occur from batch to batch, adding to the handmade goodness of each piece we make. We do our best to print larger orders from the same batch of ink.
We call the tea towels, napkins or produce bags that do not meet our quality standards "seconds." Products noted as seconds in our shop may include images that printed too lightly, have pinhole ink splotches, or other small imperfections. Some may be smaller or slightly irregular in size and shape. We reduce the price to reflect the imperfections, but they are first quality in every other way. We think they are still a "wicked good deal."
We will hold items in reserve for customers upon request. Once the items are ready to ship, we will send you a link to the reserve listing. Reserved items not purchased within 7 days of notification will be returned to regular stock.
We will consider custom requests. Additional fees may apply.
