MAKING IS FUN & DESIGN MATTERS
I'm Chloe, the designer and maker behind Make & Matter.
For me, making is fun and design matters.
And that is how it's always been ever since I was little. With my mother a potter and my grandmother an art lover, making things at home was easy and encouragement aplenty. By age 5, my passion was clear and my path laid out before me.
When I was 18, I went off to art school, where I discovered and studied design at University of the Arts London. While studying, I also worked part time at a number of creative studios in South London where I learnt how to model, mould and cast, honing as well as expanding my creative skill sets.
After graduating, I continued to design and make, but became interested and excited by the wider manufacturing and production possibilities available in the UK. Over the next few years I worked in a number of materials with different factories and workshops across the UK to develop and produce my designs. It was really, really exciting and I learnt so much! But after a few years I realised how much I missed the processes involved in making objects completely by myself, from start to finish, you know, getting my hands really dirty!
This is what lead to the creation of Make & Matter.
