I create whimsical caps, scarves, shawls and miscellany focusing on fantasy and playfulness that makes hearts light.
Hello, my name is Amanda and I am a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
I have doodled around with several different art forms during my life: water color (it is very forgiving), photography (it keeps me outside with nature), and lastly fiber art (all the yarn!).
My love of fiber art started as a child. My father was a beatnik and growing up we lived on farms and communes in different states (we even had a converted school bus we lived and traveled in). Everything was about growing and making what you could. It was there I learned to embroidery patches for clothes and to make God's Eyes (my father still has some of the patches I made for him 40 years ago). I grew up in a boho/hippie lifestyle and it is still with me today in my love for whimsical and fantastical creations and décor.
I am an eclectic person and the things I make reflect my many interests: crocheting, knitting, camping, festivals, and drumming. If I can camp, drum and crochet all in the same outing, I have hit the jack-pot! I like to make wearable whimsy. Love playing with color, texture, and experimenting with different types of fiber. I started knitting many years ago and swore I would never learn to crochet. Then one day, I saw a beautiful crocheted blanket that I absolutely had to make. I haven't stopped crocheting since!
Bringing joy to others and helping them find what sparks joy in themselves is important to me. As adults, we get bogged down with the necessities of life. But inside, we still have that child-like spark, that love of whimsy and fantasy. I want to nurture and encourage that spark through my handcrafted wearable whimsy. Be it with discrete crowns to wear at festivals or to show team spirit, scoodies with ears and paw pockets, or animal hoodies that reflect your inner spirit.
Manda's Madcaps & Miscellany makes wearable whimsy and geekery for all ages, for the young and the young at heart.
