Doing the unthinkable by fusing math and art to have some fun.
So, let's see... way back in 2002 I met a young lady who changed my life. Among other things, she's an artist at heart. And I'm a math guy. She's a museum curator now, and I'm a teacher of mathematics. It's the textbook definition of having common ground. ;-)
Both of us, deep down, are creative people. At one point she gave me a hand-made greeting card of her own creation. Of course, I felt the need to reciprocate. And so I did. After all, can any commercial greeting card truly convey your sentiments to the love of your life?
So fast forward a bit, and I've been making my own greeting cards for friends and family since 2007. It's more enjoyable then perusing 275 cards on one shelf in the store that are either too serious, too flowery, too corny, too off-color, or just not quite right. And the people in my life receive a card that is, as my grandmother once put it, a gift in and of itself.
Hand-made personalized cards on those celebratory days are now a must for me. My philosophy: simple, clean, sophisticated.
As a math teacher by day, I like to make my classes more interesting by fusing math and art to create some fun and exciting projects and lessons for my students. That eventually grew into taking a shot at making a coloring book, and also some math-themed greeting cards because they are in very short demand (especially when compared to the science-based ones).
So in my shop you'll find a growing collection of cards that is mostly math-themed, but with the occasional science card thrown in for good measure. (After all, those science guys need us math guys to run their calculations for them. Might as well throw them a card or two.) Some teacher-appreciation cards. And also a few non-math non-geek traditional Christmas/holiday cards towards the end of each year, and that coloring book I talked about.
Keep checking back. New cards show up all the time. And I'm willing to work with you to craft a customized card from scratch.
And that young lady from 2002? We've been married since 2012. And she still gets a handmade, one-of-a-kind card for every birthday, anniversary, and holiday.
