How we work:

The most interesting aspect when working together is that we were able to learn how to connect our skills in a respectful way. It is a fact that we both have very different life experiences, but we believe this is the pillar of our identity as "mokami", being able to reach the cohesion between our styles.

In order to understand how we work, it is important to explain that each one of us has their own tasks in the process. It all starts with Mónica, she is the one who hand draws and hand paints the designs on silk to make scarves and shawls. Her inspiration usually comes from her inner world, as she describes, mostly from nature, the sea, shells and landscapes. Additionally, she loves geometric patterns as much as she loves Moroccan mosaics, she's a great admirer of Andalusian Art. These designs also inspire her when working, which can be reflected in her art.

Once this process has finished, it is time for Kico to begin to hand draw the designs by using a graphic tablet. After that he vectorizes the shapes of the pattern and applies the colors of Mónica’s original design & kico's digital colors. This is an exhaustive process that requires a lot of time and talent, however, Kico enjoys it a lot. He gets the chance to be creative combining a big range of patterns to form new designs. A good example would be the moroccan painting he has made with Alhambra mosaics.

Technology has enabled us to take the advantages it brings. We have discovered the huge possibilities of modifying the designs digitally, such as experimenting with different color combinations, and making new art wall decor. Mónica normally prefers pastel shades of blues, soft greens and purples, while Kico chooses to use bright colors such as red, green and yellow. Taking on board both options when designing our products allows us to offer the customers a wider variety of possibilities to choose from. Finally, the last step of this process is when we enjoy our fantastic canvas prints.

AS MOKAMI we offer a unique line of silk scarves and a art wall decor that represent the union between ART & TECHNOLOGY.

Thanks to everyone! Marbella / 2016
