On Yarn Bases
Hello, Moonbeam! Thank you for stopping by to shop with me. I want to share some information with you about the different yarn bases I offer.
Io: 2 ply, fingering weight, 460 yards, 75% SW Merino, 25% Nylon - I make beautiful shawls and accessories. My two ply construction gives me texture. You will love my stitch definition. I have nylon and can be used for socks, too. I'm named after Jupiter's moon, discovered in 1610.
Triton: 4 ply, fingering weight, 460 yards, 75% SW Merino, 25% Nylon = I'm a great sock yarn, hard working and strong. I also look beautiful anywhere else. I'm smooth. I am named for the first Neptunian moon that was discovered in 1846,
Triton Plump: 4 ply, fingering weight, 435 yards, 85% Extrafine SW Merino, 15% Nylon I am as soft as a kitten. Wear me close to the skin - shawls, hats, mittens. I would make soft bed socks. I'm named after Jupiter's smallest moon, discovered in 1610.
Titania: 3 ply, fingering weight, 382 yards, 80% SW Merino Wool, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon I am fancy! I am round, and I develop a very slight halo after blocking. I am as soft as two kittens. Use me for anything that requires a touch of luxury. I'm named for the largest moon of Uranus, discovered in 1787.
The put up for all yarns listed above is 100 grams.
Why so many choices, when they are all fingering weight? Each has a special strength, although all are suitable for any fingering weight project. I prefer four ply yarn with nylon for socks, yet the two ply has enough nylon in it to be strong.
So, why not just choose one? Each of these bases takes color differently. Speckles are sharpest on Triton. Io is beautifully textured and colors seem to pop from it. Colors are a bit more subdued on Titania, because of the cashmere. Triton Plump is fat and round and fabulous. It has a softer look, as well, but not quite the extent that Titania does.
I take pictures from each dye lot unless otherwise noted in the description, because I want you to know what you are buying, and to see the differences in the yarn.
