I bought three of these beautiful DC necklaces. Everything with my order went smoothly. I had a few questions for Lauren before buying and she answered all of my questions promptly. The necklaces shipped extremely quickly. They were packaged very nicely and the necklaces themselves are a dream - well made and exactly as pictured. A great gift for people who love delicate and unique jewelry. I gifted them to three friends who are moving out of DC and they all loved them.
The unexpected always happens
A business that bloomed from a product of procrastination.
All my life I have been a hand-crafter; 'exploration through making' as it goes...
While of working on my portfolio following completion of my Master of Architecture degree, I took "breaks," I experimented with a laser cutter to make things for myself and family. The all-powerful laser cutter provided a means of producing delicate designs in strong materials, that no exacto ever could.
And as an individual who has had mailing addresses from Cascade, Iowa to Chicago; Brighton, England to Brooklyn; Ames, Iowa to Seattle; something that expressed my geographic footprint was one of my first pursuits.
I am a strong believer that the craft of a final product reflects the maker's knowledge of its medium(s). Muz's "simple states" line is the product of my experimentation in utilizing rapid prototype machinery to complement hand craft. Through one iteration after another, after another, I continue to explore the possibilities and limitations of machine and materials.
When I am happy with a product, the work is still not done. Rarely a day goes by that I do not scour through resources to ensure that when the final product reaches you, nothing has been overlooked; from clasp to packaging tape.
I founded Muz out of the joy of making. It is my hope that my passion for informed design and refined craft are evident in each of my products.
And for those of you wondering, yes, I did finish my portfolio.
