A handmade gift makes me feel loved, and a knitted gift can give warmth to a soul as well as a body. When a knitted gift is crafted specifically to accommodate physical impairments, or to please a particular fashion or cultural aesthetic, it’s an acknowledgment that the recipient is appreciated unconditionally—especially when the recipient is you, yourself!

I learned to knit at the age of 10 from a booklet and a skein of acrylic yarn given to me by my grandmother, who preferred to crochet. When I found myself between jobs in 2007, I turned back to knitting, and found that it gave me a structured approach to unleashing my creativity. I also discovered a whole new world of sustainable and luxury yarns! I wanted to share the news about these yarns, such as those made from hemp and bamboo, or from exotic animals like the quiviot and vicuna, or from such unlikely things as pearls and milk! I also wanted to include people who were left out of mainstream fashion—such as chemotherapy patients, amputees, the tall, the short, the plus-sized, the petite, or those who are otherwise “irregular”—so that they could feel protected from the elements but also accepted and honored exactly as they are. I am fortunate to have found a way to adapt to my own irregularity, and I wish to share the magic with everyone!
