Crafty bits 'n bobs... creating + curating since 2011
I'm Joelle and I'm an artist, a creator, a curator, and I've been doing this since I was 16 years old when I opened my very first Etsy shop to sell my handmade jewellery. This shop, Neap Tides, started as somewhere to offload my extra charms, and it turned into something completely different: a whole collection of recycled silver jewellery and art prints and whatever else I'm obsessed with making that week, and I didn't plan a single bit of it, but I am absolutely thrilled with where it's gone.
Creativity runs in families; I'm 100% convinced of it. My grandmother was a painter, my mother followed her and then pushed me to chase my artistic pursuits too, and I've been shooting and retouching photos since I was 12 years old when that obsession first hit, and it never let go.
For the past decade, I've fallen completely head over heels for ceramics and silversmithing; I flew all the way to India to do a silversmithing course nearly 10 years ago now, and it changed everything. I handmake all my jewellery in small batches out of recycled metal.
When I'm not shooting, drawing or making, I'm playing guitar, writing, sewing, or buried in my shops. I live in Falmouth, Cornwall, a seaside town that is beyond beautiful, and the nature here inspires me constantly; I can't even put it into words. Travel does the same thing: new places, new experiences, I can't get enough of it. But at the end of the day, it's art that drives everything I do; I live and breathe to create, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I am completely and utterly beyond grateful for every single person who supports this shop. Designing new things, tinkering, building this out- it's the most fun I have, and thank you for letting me do this every single day.
