I made a cap to match the cowl
At the market last week a man grabbed the cowl and was frantically searching for a hat to match. So i decided to make one or two

A day without creating something is a dreary day indeed

When I was a little girl, every little girl was taught how to make things. My mother and my aunts taught me how to embroider ea towels, sew my own clothes and crochet garments. I am sure that I was not the only girl in high school who made her own pants from gabardine remnants.

I used these skills when I had my babies . I sewed little baby clothes, my maternity dresses, and I crocheted little baby blankets . I made each of my boys a twin sized blanket and I also crocheted a huge blanket for my bed. My two oldest boys are in their mid 30s and my homemade blankets are all still going strong while store bought comforters and bedspreads have disintegrated. I tell you this to show the durability of hand made items.

I love Christmas, it's the one holiday where I will definitely overspend on presents. In 2008, I had no funds set aside for Christmas presents. What I did have though was a bag of yarn and a couple of needles that my Mom had given me. It had been at least 15 years since I had picked up a crochet needle, but there I was one week before Christmas crocheting like crazy. I made scarves for everyone. I made a hat for my niece but it was not that good.

I crochet every single day. A day without crochet is a very stressful day indeed (unless I'm on a boat of course, I love cruising -:).

I like to try my hand at different things, and I've honestly never met a crochet pattern that I followed to the letter or completed as written. I have learned a lot from all of the online bloggers who offer us their patterns , techniques and advice for free. For them, I am grateful.

I love making hats. When I can't figure something out, or need some inspiration I make a hat. I especially like my felted hats, they start out as a nondesript humongous piece of crochet and then I felt them and let them sit on a shaper (sometimes for months!) until one day I see what they are supposed to be. I find the process of creation via inspiration to be exciting and so I never rush myself.

I strive to not make the same thing twice, but when customers really love particular products (like minion, pokemon, and tardis hats) I don't mind being repetitive.

Additional policies and FAQs

Clothing sizes are as stated in the item listing.

Crocheted hats tend to stretch and are usually one size fits all. If a hat is sized smaller or larger than the norm I will state this in the item listing.

Please see my custom orders section above if you require a specific size.

To get an accurate head size:

...1. Measure the circumference of your head just above the top of the ears.
...2. Wrap tape gently around head making certain tape lies midway on your occipital bone (that little bump in the middle of the back of your head).
...3. Don't pull the tape too tightly or your hat will fit that tightly.
...4. If you do not have a measuring tape use a string, cut off the excess and then us a ruler to measure the string.

Typical head circumference is as follows:

...Newborn 13" - 14" 33-36cm
...3 to 6 months 14" - 17" 36-43 cm
...6 to 12 months 16" - 19" 41-48 cm
...12 mths-3 years 18" to 20" 46 -48 cm
...3 - 10 years 19" - 20 1/2" 48-51 cm
...Pre-teens and Teens 20 1/2" - 22" 53 -56 cm
...Woman 21.5" - 22.5" 54.61-57.15cm
...Man 23" - 24" 58.4 cm - 61 cm

Contact me if you would like a gift wrapped and mailed to the recipient. There will be an extra fee based on the size of the gift.

Crocheted items are hand wash or machine wash on gentle cycle in cold water. See instructions in item listing. DO NOT WASH felted items as they will most likely shrink or lose their shape.

Sale and clearance items are clearly marked as such and are in stock and ready to ship. If you need one of these items in another size or color, this is treated as a custom order and the price and shipping will be different.
