Hi, I'm Nuts for Paper!!
Nuts for Paper is a 10-year brand of handmade illustrated stationery products, with original and peculiar illustrations created by Mafalda Fernandes (a outra mafalda). I also focus on screen-printed apparel. Everything is created and made in my home studio in sunny Portugal.
Nuts for Paper was born in 2013 as a result of a will to create something different that combines art and crafts.
Why Nuts for Paper?
There is no rational explanation for how we came to this name. We wanted to choose a name in English so it could be easily recognized anywhere. It came while we were brainstorming. As soon as the idea stroke us we started to think about squirrels and mascots. We create two characters that become the mascots - Chubby and Snuggly (two squirrels) inspired by ourselves and the things each other liked to do.
What are the inspirations for the creation of Nuts for Paper products?
Initially was our passion for graphic design, typography, illustration, and stationery.
What inspired me today is a little bit of everything that surrounds me. Through the years small things like I need something to write and compile my favorite recipes - inspire me to start making notebooks for recipes, or the contact with people that spend most of their time traveling compelled me to create travel journals.
With the squirrels, still, back in 2013, we started to create Cookbooks, Travel books, Notepads, Shopping lists, and Wishlists. These first products were all drawn, painted, sewn, and cut by hand!
In 2014 we started to paint the illustrations digitally. We started to make hardcover notebooks. We created the first weekly planners and Calendars.
We create a new line of recipe notebooks and travel journals. The first postcards were also created during this year.
In March of 2015, my friend left this project to dedicate herself to others.
I confess that during 2015 I didn't create many new things, but I expanded the planners and organizational notepads. In 2015 Pins and Magnetics were introduced to the shop. I also launched the first limited edition of Tote Bags. In 2016 started to make bookmarks and re-designed some products. 2017 was a year of change and hard decisions. 2018 was a year of big transformations and 2019 brought screenprint into Nuts for Paper studio life.
