About

A bit about me and what I do.

My name is Leonie, but no-one really calls me that; usually I go by Peggy. Or Peg, Pin, Onion, Nooch, Ionie, Amie (my Nan gets her grandchildren confused), Kid, Lonibob or Cheeky Good Boy (that’s my parrot....). So, as you might guess, I answer to pretty much anything!

I’ve always been a crafty person (and by that I mean I’ve always made things, not that I’m a sneaky sneak!); ever since I can remember I’ve drawn pictures, built dens, coloured stuff, made friendship bracelets...

I discovered fimo in my early teens, and made a lot of door signs, earrings, keyrings and bits and pieces. I had a hiatus while I was at university (there was far too much work (definitely not drinking and partying) to be done there), but when I graduated and came home I picked it up again, making signs, jewellery, keyrings, cake toppers and various other stands.

In my late teens my Dad taught me to crochet, and I started making scarves, blankets, hats, bags and slippers. I always found that there was something rather comforting about sitting on the sofa on a cold winter night, fire burning in the hearth, a cup of tea by my side and a half-finished blanket over my knee, working on the rows.

I lived with an artist and massive comic book fan, and over time (partly through osmosis and partly through sheer weight of information), I too have become a fan of all things superhero and spandex. Needless to say, being a huge geek (which is cool now so he doesn’t mind me saying so), my beardy companion had quite the collection of comic books (a couple of thousand at least, plus 100 or so graphic novels). This in itself was never a problem for either of us, except that we’re both hoarders (well, I like to think I keep things that will obviously come in useful at some point, but I’m advised that’s hoarding!), and we were rapidly running out of space. Beardy decided (with no coercion) to sort through his comics and get rid of some that he wasn’t going to read again – there were some storylines that were just too infeasible (surely not?!), and some that he had in novel form so didn’t need to duplicate. This generated a pile of 100 or so comics that we had to get rid of, and the thought of listing each one individually on ebay really didn’t appeal to me...

Being of a naturally artistic disposition I thought there must be something I could do with all these comics, and I remembered seeing a pair of Superhero Heels on Pinterest. Surely I could do something like that. So I gave it a go, and it seemed to work.

Admittedly the ‘clear-out’ failed quite dramatically! Not only did we not get rid of the comics, more stuff appeared in the house – shoes, MORE comics, packing materials, business cards, glue (so much glue) all appeared from nowhere, as well as dozens of little pots to hold all the cuttings from various comics, and an antique writing desk that I invested in to make a perfect work station. But, all in all, it’s keeping me out of mischief and, if I do say so myself, the things I make are pretty cool! I hope you think so too.
