XPHAIEA.
Tom Cherry is a textile artist living in Hertfordshire, UK. He graduated in 2010 from London College of Fashion with a BA in Costume Design.
"I'm inspired by folklore, fantasy and nature. I work primarily with recycled and upcycled materials, sourcing them from vintage and secondhand shops. I enjoy working with remnants, discarded and found objects to create something unique and magical that will be cherished for many years to come.
I've been an avid reader since I was a child and there is a strong narrative undercurrent to my work. Characters reference myths, folklore and works of literature; and I find a great deal of inspiration in the stories I read.
Xphaiea was started in 2018, and I initially began by making small hand embroidered patches. Eventually I started to work in a more three dimensional style, creating my first doll of Baba Yaga in November 2019.
Since then I have been working full time making, creating and selling to buyers worldwide.
