Our Story
As sisters, we had always had a love for art and crafts from a young age, and we felt that we needed to be more creative outside of our daily jobs. We shared our ideas and skills, Sam coming from a Graphic Design background and myself (Shell), coming from a teaching background where I enjoyed crafting and socialising.
In 2018, we began to create personalised scrabble pet frames from our home in Staffordshire, initially for friends and family as gifts. We loved getting messy/thinking creatively again and wondered whether other people would also like to display our frames to remember their pets.
Working together, we utilized our skills to create a business name and logo.
'Pickture It' was our chosen business name because it created a mental image of capturing a special moment and framing it. Changing the spelling to 'Pickture' was a play on words and meant that customers could 'pick' which words/names/dates to include in their gifts and create a personalised product, tailored to their needs. We used a cool grey/blue colour palette to compliment our black and white frames and also achieving a professional look.
Next, we set up a Facebook page and started to sell via social media, we have since also set up an Instagram page and Twitter account.
Sam started to experiment with water colour paints and created a few prints focused around positive quotes and animals.
During a Comic Con event, I was especially drawn towards Lego products and we wondered whether we could incorporate Lego into our designs. Everybody loves Lego!
We invested in wedding mini figures and played around with ideas. We liked a play on words and 'He put a ring on it' really stuck with us.
Initially, we started up an Etsy shop selling this frame until customers began to enquire about personalised options. We really liked the idea of including names and dates for special keepsakes and these soon became our best-seller. We went on to develop and build our range of scrabble and Lego based frames and we also created cards for customers to take away on the day if they preferred a smaller purchase. At markets and fairs, we also sell smaller items including fridge magnets, decorations and gift tags, which are not currently available online.
Our Etsy shop opened in January 2019 and we have also been attending a handful of local arts and crafts fairs over our first year of selling. Speaking to other artists and sellers is one of our favourite parts of going along to the events, and we are always open to suggestions from customers.
We are currently working on becoming more eco-friendly through our up-cycled greeting card designs and also our packaging. Our products are always well-packaged with love and we also include a receipt and personal thank you message with every order.
We hope you enjoy looking through our Etsy store and hope to see you at some of our events in the future. Please find upcoming events listed under our 'Announcements' section.
