True Colors
I immediately related to the artists' community at Etsy and decided to open a shop in late 2009. I've always had this inner magnet towards artistic pursuits since childhood and later on, I gravitated towards art subjects alongside a business degree. I knew somehow, I would reach my true self if I kept going in the direction that felt right for me. A simple decision to give a new obsession called watercolor painting a try during a trip was one of those steps. So I bought a Winsor and Newton travel set, a watercolor tablet and borrowed a how-to book from the library. I was hooked from then on. The colorful paints, brushes and smell of wet paper all got to me. I enjoy transforming what I imagine or see into my own tangible form and being pleasantly surprised by the outcome. It has made my world a colorful one and when I somehow connect with others through my work, it is all the more true and inspiring.
My work has evolved to include different mediums like gouache, acrylic/oil and soft pastel. I also turn my artwork into surface pattern and fabric designs. I sew my own projects, stage and photograph/videotape my work. Part of being a small business owner! I welcome collaborations and licensing and you may contact me via email at suegmag [!at] yahoo.com.
