I used to think I couldn't paint.
I've been a photographer by trade for over 10 years. That was always my identity in the creative world. But, then a thing called the pandemic happened.
My acrylic pouring journey started a couple of years ago when a friend asked me to attend an intro class to the art form at my apartment complex of all places (pre-pandemic). I was pretty hooked from the beginning, and it became my new favorite activity to do whenever I had the time. When the pandemic hit, I lost my job as a photo editor, and I suddenly had all the time in the world to dig into acrylic pouring.
To my surprise, I commissioned my first painting just a few months after learning fluid art, and I felt like I had tapped into something big, albeit by complete serendipity.
I love the uncertainty of fluid art. It teaches you a lot about the control, or lack there of, that we have over our lives. We can do our best to choose certain elements for our painting, but ultimately we have no control over how the paint settles into place.
I still have a hard time saying "I paint", but I'm working on it. And I'm still blown away every time someone says something nice about my paintings, or actually purchases one.
Never stop trying new things. You never know where it will take you.
