I can't praise Michelle highly enough for her beautiful work and amazing customer service! I came to her with an idea, and she designed it and made it better than anything I imagined! These dickies are so cute, so comfortable, and add polish to any outfit. The removable straps really help, too! Not only did I get something much nicer than I could have found in any fast-fashion store, I feel good about where it came from! Wonderful experience all around!

Michelle made this into a top for me and I couldn't be more satisfied with the finished product! I think this would be great to have as a staple wardrobe item in others colors too. The fabric is a very good quality and comfortable.
Style.. with a conscience!
There's a time and place for everything and for me - the timing to start my own business and to set up an Etsy shop couldn't have been better!
I was working as a head designer for a Canadian denim brand where the stress and expectations were mounting but everything else... was not. I had visions for a new venture that could focus on environmental consciousness.. and fashion that wasn't your typical eco-friendly "Miss Plain Jane" variety when a dear friend and respected colleague suggested Etsy. She also happened to be looking for a studio mate... Hello perfect timing! I made the decision to leave the company I was working for and take a leap of faith. This was followed with long hours setting up shop, working out a business plan and living off grill cheese but every bit of hard work and sweat was worth it. Here I was, finally creating something that meant.. something!
Since then I've moved cities and I am now happy to be running my label Simone's Rose out of my home in Toronto, ON. I decided to name my label after my grandmother Simone who had a passion for her garden and roses. My passion - is growing my business and making a difference however I can. My hope - is that caring for my business in the same way my grandmother cared for her roses, will make it flourish and grow. That's... Simone's Rose!
Who makes it? Well.. I do! I do everything from the accounting, marketing, customer service, pattern making, fabric sourcing, shipping, designing and sewing.
What's it made of? I choose to use organic, fair trade, factory bolt ends, locally purchased or vintage fabrics for all of my designs. Some of the fair trade fabrics are purchased from women's collectives in Thailand to help support their communities and vintage fabrics also include Japanese kimonos and obi textiles.
Where's it going? Well, all I know is that I am no where near finished! I have big ideas to expand Simone's Rose as my clientele grows and am excited to collaborate with some talented artists that sell on Etsy as well. So many ideas, so little time but I'm doing my best to get to all of them.
Thanks so much for hangin' out and reading about my story! Hopefully I'll have bigger and more exciting stories to tell in the future... Stay tuned!
