Frequently asked questions

Sizing details

I attempt to scale in as many sizes as will make sense for the pattern and I list them in the finished garment measurement, not the wearer's measurements or a commercial size chart.

Why are there no stitch counts?

When writing patterns, I attempt to make them as uncluttered as possible. This improves readability for those with forms of dyslexia.
To that end, I will give you either the amount to start with and how many increases or decreases and let you figure out the end stitch count, or I will give you the starting count and ending count and you can figure out how many increases or decreases you need.

Why are there no metric conversions?

The short answer is, there will be soon!
When writing patterns, I attempt to keep them as uncluttered as possible. This improves readability for those with forms of dyslexia. To that end, I do not write the metric conversions in the same line (ie: # (#) # inches/ # (#) # cm)
As I update all of my listings, I will be slowly adding a metric version of each pattern when possible. Please note, I do not personally have any grasp of the metric system and will not be able to guide you on metric -based questions or issues.

What are the "Magic Sweaters" ?

Each one of the Magic Sweater patterns includes instructions that will guide you through a variety of interchangeable shape options.
You will start with a standard round yoke, then after the underarm join/split, you will be able to choose if you want your body to be straight, or a-line. Instructions are given for how to change the length of the body of your sweater.
When returning to the sleeves, you will be able to pick if you want straight sleeves, sleeves that get tighter, or looser as you go. You then are given options for shortening or lengthening of any sleeve option you choose,

Accessibility

I use a combination of simple adaptations in font size and boldness, as well as clear language and no abbreviations whenever possible to make reading easier for those with forms of dyslexia.
This also means not having multiple languages or conversions in one line that would interrupt the instructions.
I attempt to use clear language that will not pose an issue with a non-English translator.
I always attempt to leave no guessing by using specific wording like "5 more times" "repeat the last 2 rows only for xx length from"

Inclusivity

Sizing- My standard adult sweaters are sized from a 30 to 60 inch chest (76 to 152 cm)

Gendering- Patterns may be "coded" for one gender. I do use 2 proportion charts for scaling adult sizes, one is "standard male" and the other is "standard female". Unless options like breast darts have or have not been included, the only difference will usually be in torso and sleeve lengths. I include instructions for placing buttons and button holes on either side. There is no intentional rule or opinion expressed on who the sweater is or is not suitable for.

Crafting style accommodations

Knitting- because not everyone knits in the same style, terms like "s,s,k" or "s, k, psso" are useless for many. Unless another technique is specified, all shaping will be specified as "right leaning" and "left leaning" these will be left to the maker's individual style to create.
When feasible, small items will have a flat or in the round option written out.
Crochet- all crochet patterns will have a special section to explain the quirks of my patterns.
My crochet patterns can be used by left handed crocheters with no further translating for directional instructions.

Pattern support

I am working on building a video library that can be referred to for help on any technique I use in my patterns. Suggestions and requests are welcomed.
Please, feel free to reach out to me for assistance, questions, corrections, or anything else knitting and crochet related. I can be reached here, my website, or any of my public social accounts.
