The Retro Mama Story

As a little girl, I loved to watch my mom sew, making clothes and elaborate Halloween costumes—and it seemed both magical and impossible as she transformed a stack of fresh cut fabric into beautiful creations. When, years later, I sat down to stitch up my first store-bought sewing pattern, it seemed even more magical and impossible—who could understand those instructions?!

After my second son was born, I found myself with extra creative energy, so I stayed up late at night teaching myself to sew on a little Brother sewing machine purchased with Betty Crocker points. I made aprons as Christmas presents, and officially became addicted to sewing. I began drafting my own patterns, creating aprons, bags, pincushions, and soft toys.

I began selling my projects online, and when I realized that I had more ideas than time to produce batches and batches of toys in my little sewing room, I started working up my patterns into PDF tutorials to share with other folks who love to sew.
