Celebrating Science with Yarn
Science has always been a huge part of my life. By day, I'm a professor and scientist, spending my time studying viruses, mentoring students, and sharing the excitement of scientific discovery. But I've always believed that science doesn't have to stay confined to classrooms and laboratories: it can be fun, approachable, and even adorable.
That idea is what inspired Science Adjacent.
I've loved stuffed animals for as long as I can remember. There's something special about taking a complex idea and turning it into something soft, comforting, and full of personality. When I discovered crochet, it quickly became the perfect creative outlet—a hobby that let me step away from writing papers and running experiments while still celebrating the subjects I love.
Today, I design and handcraft crocheted microbes, cells, organs, and other science-inspired creations, along with stickers, magnets, and crochet patterns. Each piece is made by hand in Chicago with the goal of making science a little more relatable, a little less intimidating, and a whole lot cuter.
Whether you're a scientist, student, teacher, healthcare professional, or simply someone who appreciates a quirky handmade creation, I hope these little characters spark curiosity, start conversations, and remind people that science is for everyone.
Thanks for visiting my shop and supporting a small handmade business. I hope you find something that makes you smile—and maybe inspires you to see science in a new way.
