SEA GLASS & PEBBLES for JEWELLERY & HOME DECOR found by SeaGlassPebbles
Hello, Mairi here, thank you for visiting my Etsy shop and I welcome you to browse through my creations and beach finds.
I use sea glass, pebbles, sea pottery and other beach finds, to create jewellery and sell special finds to other collectors and skilled craftspeople.
I go on winter holidays to a coastal town in Catalonia, Spain, and this is where my love for sea glass was truly born. With my husband, we both enjoy strolling along the beach and finding the gems that the Mediterranean Sea has washed ashore. More often than not, my husband is left sitting on the sand, reading a book, while I wander off into the distance in search of the best find of the day. There are some pieces that I will never part with because they are so precious to me, like my perfectly frosted and smoothed spheroid black glass, or the huge chunk of white glass that landed at my husband's feet and which almost covers the palm of his hand.
As with all sea glass, each piece is unique. I like to think of every piece as being a gift from the sea, created from broken shards we have strewn into it over the years. We may never know where these pieces of glass came from but they have their own story and can now be loved again.
The Legend of Mermaid's Tears: Neptune, god of the sea, forbade mermaids from calming the wind, taming the waves and changing the force of nature to save sailors in distress. After an impetuous act of love and saving a man's life, a sobbing mermaid was banished to the ocean's depths, condemning her for eternity never to surface again. To this day, her gleaming tears wash up on the beaches as sea glass: an eternal reminder of true love.
I have been designing and making stained glass since leaving school. You can find my creations here: www.mairidesign.etsy.com
Over the years, I have also achieved my BA Honours Degree, in Silversmithing & Jewellery Design, from Glasgow School of Art and have worked as a graphic designer and retail manager. I am now living and working in Prague, Czech Republic - home of the beautiful Bohemian glass - and also teach English as a second language.
