A beautiful Moroccan textile souk
I am British married to a Morrocan. I have been a maker pretty much since I can remember and that is what I am happiest doing. It is who I am. I sew, embroider, crotchet and knit and dabble in fabric dying.
I fell in love with Morocco and then again with it's textiles- the colours, textures, designs, shapes and finishes. Morocco has a rich history of passementarie. Moroccan textiles are heavily influenced by French ornate style as Morocco was once a French Protectorate so there is lots to interest vintage lovers and costumiers- but Morocco adds another more exotic African dimension to the mix which makes it special. As a hand maker I love that ancient traditional methods are still used in creating the trims, cords and embroidered fabrics, buttons and tassels.
The North African palate is vast- vibrant colours or subtle pastels- the range of available yarn colours is overwhelming- spools of yarn in the braid shops stacked up shelf after shelf like jewels.
Trims and braids and cords can be made to order in small quantities by small family based businesses – not factory made- so most of the trims in my etsy shop have been chosen and designed by me- my colour choices and my style choices. Some of the trims are made by hand and all use traditional braid making methods with extensive hand processing. Many of the metallic trims are sourced from Fes.

Tassels and embellishments abound in Morocco and I enjoy using them in new and different ways such as in textile jewelry.
I love making the traditional items and then using the trims braids and fabrics in more unconventional ways to create a special touch or twist as in textile jewelry or modern gift items.
