About

Service and Celebration Every Day

I have been making pottery since 1982. I fell in love with clay immediately as a child, and this memory is part of what motivates my love of teaching kids about such a “magic" medium. My education includes formal training and studio work, making pottery at an area living history museum, contact with other working artists, and through motherhood and family life. I also have a background in textile silk screening and mail order catalog production. My life is all about my family, and making and selling tableware has enabled me to stay home and raise my kids. It is such a privilege to be invited to serve at so many tables- I appreciate the opportunity to make beautiful things which make a great family meal- or a simple cup of coffee- even better.

Thanks for shopping with SheaClay Pottery. I am grateful for your business and I will work to deliver beautiful, functional pottery that you'll enjoy using (and giving) for years to come.

Accepted payment methods

  • Money Order
  • Check
Payment
I accept PayPal, or you may send me a personal check and I will ship your pottery once it clears.
Shipping
I ship on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the week, and I use USPS most often.
Refunds and Exchanges
I want you to be really happy with your purchase, glad to use my pots and thrilled to give them. I do my best to represent each item accurately in terms of design and color, but computer monitors vary and so the color may be a little different. Unique, one of a kind items are photographed as they are listed, but some things, like jewelry bowls, mugs, and pet bowls are made in a series and the one I send may not necessarily be the one in the photo. Exchanges might be tough item for item since I make each piece by hand. I do make things in sets and with similarities. If I have more in stock, I can photo other options to try and find exactly what you want. I do have to ask you to pay for shipping in total on returns and exchanges.

I do my best to package things very well. I spend too much time and energy to have my beautiful thing arrive at your home in pieces. If it does arrive damaged, please save all the packaging and contact me asap- I will file a claim and send you something new.
Additional policies and FAQs
I will gladly accept custom orders. I'm happy to change the color of an item and work within my glaze palette at no charge. Brand new items and major design changes do require a significant time and talent commitment, and so I require prepayment on items under $50 and 50% downpayment on items over $50, credited toward the full purchase price of the item when it ships.

I offer wholesale pricing to retailers on orders over $500. Contact me for details.

CARE OF STONEWARE
Thank You for supporting Fine American Craft. Each piece of
SheaClay stoneware pottery is handmade on the potter's wheel
from food safe clay and glaze, and may be used with care in the oven, dishwasher and microwave. The following guidelines will help you to care for SheaClay Pottery:

Hot Stoneware can cause burns if handled improperly. Always use a heat-resistant oven mitt or pad when handling hot stoneware or placing on surfaces.

Avoid extreme temperature changes. Don't put frozen food in stoneware and put into a hot oven. Always allow Stoneware to cool to room temperature prior to adding liquid or cleaning. Do not use chipped or damaged stoneware.
Do not use Stoneware under broiler or on direct heat source.

Stoneware should not touch the sides of the oven or oven door when closed.

Sometimes stoneware that has been through repeated cycles in the dishwasher may absorb moisture, especially if the bottom is unglazed or the piece is matte glazed. This may cause ware to get hot in the microwave, so use extreme care and a mitt to test before removing. Allow ware to dry thoroughly, or handwash as an alternative, and avoid boiling liquids in the microwave to avoid possible overheating of ware.

Each piece is smoothed and sanded with care, but due to the granular nature of hardened stoneware, care should be taken to use coasters and placemats to protect fine furniture and counters from scratches. Your new pottery is coated with durable and stable glaze which will give you many years of good use and can be put in the dishwasher. However, some very harsh citric or chemical based water softening agents may dull the glaze finish over time and with many repeated washings. It is best to avoid them. If you have any questions or concerns about the care of your SheaClay stoneware, please email inquiries to sheaclaypottery [!at] gmail.com
