Viking Shields by a Viking Descendant
Several years ago I attended a Sons of Norway Christmas party where I met the leader of a Viking re-enactment group, "The Sons of Loki". I joined them and learned combat techniques and learned to construct viking shields. My first shield was OK but it was cumbersome and difficult to make. I knew that I could do a better job and develop better shield making techniques than I was being taught. I wanted to make a shield as authentic and practical as possible.
I began researching shields that were found at various archeological sites while developing construction techniques that were more in keeping with the Norse tradition of making shields. I quickly developed a very authentic and well crafted shield. The first shields sold to my fellow members in the Sons of Loki. I was also selling them at re-enactments to other groups and spectators.
One day while searching the internet to buy a cloak pin I stumbled across Etsy and opened my shop.
I keep the memory of my famous Viking Ancestors, Harald Hardrada, Harald Fair Hair, Ragnar Lodbrok and many others alive through my creations.
