Beachcombing on vacation in Nicaragua
My sea turtles are my signature piece - the first sea glass art mosaic designs I ever made
I work at the beach, i live at the beach, i play at the beach.
We journey to beaches near and far to collect the treasures that make up Marea Baja Designs

I'm lucky to have the beach outside my front door. I'll get lost out there for hours hunting for sea glass, shells and other sea creatures.

I'm Betsy, and the big guy's Andy. We met on the beach and we've since made it our home.

After one of our vacations, I made my first sea glass mosaic - just a basic one covering a picture frame. Andy encouraged me to create new pieces with my glass - "Make a tortuga", "Make a seahorse" - and on and on. And so I did.

Over time I've figured out the beaches nearby (and far away) that have the best of everything - this one for sea fans, that one for scallop shells, over there for urchins, this way for sea glass. It's always an adventure though, and I wouldn't want to do anything else.

Marea Baja Designs is my way of bringing the ocean into everyone's homes. My art evokes the full beach experience - the sun, the sand and the sea. That's why I use only repurposed materials: wood that's been weathered from all the lives it's already lived; shells we find on our journeys along the Pacific coast; and sea glass that's been tumbled in the surf and not by machines.
